@parlementum yes, but OStatus is push, so my instance is trying to send statuses to accounts subscribed to me.

They're all practically invite-only, and it's a pain in the ass to switch accounts. All history lost, subscribers, followers, etc.

It reminds me of that certain someone complaining about the lack of backup/restore functionality a few days ago.

There are also some SN-hosted instances with longer character limits. Still have the same backup/restore issues, though.
