what i do hope to see is all KDE apps needing a RDBMS to use one instance of $DB, and directed graph apps another. 2 is plenty.

the akonadi team routinely measures performance of the various backends. blog entries can be found, even. mysql still is the winner atm.

they have radically different db needs (directed graph vs relational)

i think we're at the place where the consolidation we all need and want is cming. that said: don't ever expect akonadi+nepo in the same db

agreed 100%. it's been a long road, some still left untravelled, for nepomuk, akonadi, etc to be proven and gain dev trust to get used

that was the original design requirement, yes. but they did such a great job of it we're using it for things like microblogging now too :)

indeed; if Jolla built with KDE technology many of these questions would be answered with "right here, sir!"

Akonadi uses Nepomuk for metadata processing; more and more apps (inc Plasma components) use Akonadi; it's coming together nicely :)
