@alexboly Just buy it, call to get a refund, they'll tell you it was free, debunk that moronic statement, and you're done.
-
@alexboly To help clarify: What country is the friend in? And what is their primary language?
-
@alexboly call up Dell and request a refund for the cost of the EULA Windows license, and have the store or vendor uninstall Windows.
-
@matthewjones he now lives in Scotland, he is Romanian but knows english very well
-
@alexboly Is Dell not offering laptops with ubuntu on their website anymore?
-
@divineomega @horseman the only one is Inspiron Mini 10v, which is not appropriate for him
-
@alexboly @wgreenhouse no idea of the applicable law in Romania, unfortunately
-
@alexboly business or private? if one, try the other - you don't have to be a business to buy a "business" machine (at least not in NL)
-
@wgreenhouse he lives in Scotland, so the laws that apply are from UK
-
@alexboly In the US, you can go to http://bit.ly/PmoE4 for Dell PCs with Ubuntu !ubuntu - outside of US, I'm not sure.
-
@alexboly Dell Inspiron Mini 10" comes with Ubuntu for only £199 in UK. http://tr.im/zpiW
-
@alexboly also: try the phone - here, the "business" side has more configuration options than consumer side, but phone has even more
-
@alexboly if he isn't set on a Dell laptop he could always go with System 76 to get Ubuntu pre-installed (though they may be pricier)
-
@alexboly in the UK one should: 1. buy computer 2. boot 3. reject MS EULA 4. request refund, or laptop without OEM Windows
-
@alexboly @wgreenhouse http://ur1.ca/7nd8 seems to have been one of the first users to do so in the UK
-
@alexboly By googling for "site:ro dell laptop freedos" !bucharestlug ... and a personal tip from me, tell him to avoid ATI graphics cards.
