@andyc Friend of mine wants a blog set up but would like to try "something different". What can you tell me about Habari? Worth a try?

@andyc I always wanted to try it. Maybe I'll give it a shot!
-
@fabsh Nice list of 'something different' compiled here - http://web-dev-cheat-sheets.blogspot.com/2009/08/flat-file-based-php-cmss.html
-
@andyc I'll see your importer and raise you an open protocol/system for doing comments in a sensible way.
-
@andyc I'll have a look now. You got me interested. Minus points for the XP screenshots on your blog, though... ;)
-
@fabsh Sorry, mate. I have a dream to convert to freedom one day. Wife wants a ([Linux ?] netbook downstairs to 'look stuff up quickly'.
-
@dwd Ah - screw it. I'm waiting for Google Wave to rise like a Tsunami and render conventional comments. Obsolete. Dead. In the water.
-
@fabsh I have played around with it. It takes a somewhat different approach, but I quite liked it.
-
@andyc No worries. At least you're not on a fucking Mac like all those WP people. They always go on about Text Mate. WTF!?
-
@mjjzf OpenSolaris? Yeah.... Maybe..... Not.
-
@andyc Might try it on my blog first. Maybe Habari can manage to get me back into blogging. That would be ace!
-
@fabsh Hmm - I'm not wholly sure a change of platform is enough to re-energise one's blog but please feel free to at least try Habari.
-
/me makes mental note never to introduce Mac using, Habari loving @michaeltwofish to @fabsh :-)
-
...or is it Mac loving, Habari using ? I can never remember.
-
@andyc Well, I dunno. I can try, right? ;)
-
@mjohnson Yeah, well. That too. Haha... ;)
-
@andyc As long as @michaeltwofish doesn't start raving to me about Text Mate, I'm OK. ;)
-
@fabsh Of course, it is just fun to try a new platform. Have fun! ;)
-
@mjohnson Yeah, it's like a new car... :D
-
@fabsh To be honest, as you have a full-time job and all the time you spend on Linux Outlaws, I'm surprised you even have a blog :-)
-
@fabsh I'm pretty sure he uses Emacs and ange-ftp.
-
@andyc My fulltime job is studying, then I have a part-time job and then I have LO. I know, it's mad! Oo
-
@andyc Emacs on MacOS? Oh... my... god... Stallman's beard is erupting in flames as we speak. The horror! ;)
-
Updating my Thunderbird 3 to beta 4
-
@fabsh What distro are you currently running ? I may be able to dig out a HOWTO...
-
@fabsh ...and I think, even then, you are still forgetting something very important - a partner (and I don't mean Dan) :-)
-
@andyc Yeah, true. I spend a lot of time with her as well. :)
-
@andyc Ubuntu. On the server it's Hardy.
-
@fabsh A year old but Matt Gibson's HowTo might still be helpful - http://ur1.ca/0tpd
-
@andyc Thanks, mate. You are a legend. :)
-
@fabsh Not sure about that - a leg end is more likely.
-
@michaeltwofish Oh God - as soon as I said it, I knew you used some legacy editor albeit not TextMate, to edit text, mate.
-
@michaeltwofish Good, man! Vim rocks. :)
-
@andyc Legacy editor ?? /me sputters, and goes back to bed.
-
@michaeltwofish Can it do split screen, incremental search, multiple buffers yet ?
-
@michaeltwofish For two years after the Oracle takeover, Siebel folk were referred to as 'Legacy employees'. I wanted it on my business card
-
@michaeltwofish @andyc Yeah. Where I'm from, a legacy is something you *want* to inherit. Vi, on the other hand... :P
-
@andyc Split screen (vertical or horizontal), incremental search, and I think Vim has always been buffer-based.
