@sobotka now I'll have to try Pidgin with identica. wondering who is providing the XMPP/jabber server however??
-
@rkj you can use gmail with pidgin... gtalk uses the xmpp protocol
-
@alphakamp But can I do that and not get identica notices BOTH on Gtalk and Pidgin?
-
@sobotka I do not. identispy may have that, not sure
-
@rkj not if your logged on to both at the same time but other wise yeah
-
@rkj yes - just sign out of gTalk to silence that xmpp stream.
-
@andyc really DUMB question. I use Gtalk integrated into Gmail. do I have to log out of Gmail to silence Gtalk (I guess?)
-
@rkj They live independent lives. GMail doesn't care if you're logged into Gtalk. Gtalk doesn't care if you're logged into Gtalk.
-
@rkj No - I think you have to close down gTalk if you just want to to use gTalk integrated into gMail.
-
@andyc I've found that both can be used at the same time. You just receive your IMs on whichever one you're actively using at the time.
-
@mu Don't you get duplicates and eventually go insane. The man in the lab coat insists that's what happened to me.
-
@sobotka if you phone has an email address you can set that in connect, sms.
-
@andyc I keep it simple. One app at a time. Either GMailTalk or Gtalktalk.
-
@mu Yeah - I use gTalk client (Windoze) and Pidgin (Linux). Pidgin on Windows is reserved for work. I can't risk misdirecting my stream.
