@fabsh ah hell the one time I don't randomly click links..... Thanks much
Saturday, 19-Dec-09 21:04:48 UTC from web-
@cybercowboy NP. Enjoy Identica. Beats the hell out of Tw*tter. ;)
-
@gamerchick02 "Some stuff"? What do you mean?
-
@fabsh: Like delicious has an autopost to twitter. Same with tumbr. You can set up digg to autopost to twitter as well, but not to identica.
-
@gamerchick02 Yeah, well... Third party web services. We need to tell them to support statusnet!
-
@fabsh: And #twitterfeed seems to be down and not posting things. :(
-
@fabsh: I agree! The API is there; I don't understand why devs can't implement it.
-
@gamerchick02 I don't use that service. Don't see the point.
-
@gamerchick02 I get RSS. I do think it has no place in a personal mublogging stream, though. It always annoyed me on Jaiku. Borders on spam.
-
@gamerchick02 Might I recommend that you _don't_ put your blog entries into identi.ca. Seems like cross-contamination to me.
-
@fabsh: I didn't mean you. Sorry. I meant some people that follow on my microblog might not have my RSS feed in their reader.
-
@gamerchick02 True. I still think it shouldn't be in one stream. But that's personal opinion. ;)
-
@fabsh: Good point. I didn't think it bordered on spam. Maybe it does. Hrm.
-
@gamerchick02 It would be OK if there was some way to opt-out like Jaiku had. Also, it's not really spam if it's one post a day... ;)
-
@gamerchick02 @fabsh I noticed in @scobleizer's blog he's putting tech notices in a separate Twitter account, so readers can sub or not.
-
@120new Good idea. But then, Scoble is spam by definition. I mean, in person... ;)
-
@fabsh His thing does seem pretty hyper-business, yes :) But I think the idea of separating microblog notices from links is a good move.
-
@fabsh: Mine is usually 1-5 links a day. Not a ton (I'm no Scobleizer!) but if I'm doing a lot of digging and the like, it can be spammy.
-
@120new: Hrm. That's an idea... Thanks!
-
@gamerchick02 I personally don't care much. I just ignore stuff. That's why I don't get people complaining about too high a post volume etc.
-
@120new Yeah, it is. It should be build into the software though. Multiple accounts for stuff is a hack, really...
-
@gamerchick02 But like you said, you're not posting heaps of links all the time, so it's probably not something you need to worry about.
-
@fabsh I don't know what that means; it's easy & quick to start a new account here. But maybe it gets tricky to post to different ones.
-
@120new The site should have an option for feeds plus the ability for users to ignore them.
-
@fabsh Oh, okay. I reckon that sounds complicated. The more options we have, the more things can go wrong, slow down, etc.

@120new Jaiku had it two years ago. Worked well...
-
@fabsh Oh, well in that case, if it works well, good idea! :)
-
@joshix Yeah, I'm an expert in software design... :/
-
@120new "The more options we have, the more things can go wrong, slow down, etc." That is all ye know on earth, & all ye need to know.
-
@120new: No, I'm not. I try not to post too much; some days I have a lot to say! :)
-
@joshix: That happens in other things besides software. ;)
-
@snapl: I want to get the links out. Do you think I should open a new account for links/blog posts/etc?
-
@joshix But I'm guessing the best software design is the one that fulfills the requirements of the task, not the one that won't break.
-
@joshix I mean, as a user it helps if the software doesn't break, but maybe in design terms a bit of trouble can help strengthen the thing.
-
@120new Would you rather have a program do everything you want correctly 80% of the time, or do 80% of what you need correctly 100% * time?
-
@joshix Depends on what it's doing. I can't decide without a specific scenario.
-
@gamerchick02 It's good you have a lot to say and bad if any of us are making you feel like you have to try not to post too much.
-
@120new: Nobody is making me feel like I post too much. Some days (when I post a ton) I wonder if I'm being too spammy...
-
@gamerchick02 basKet!!! though you will probably go with Gnote or Evernote
-
@120new: ... but that's my own thoughts. ;) I love this medium to communicate with people from all over. I've met many neat people.
-
@skreech2: I've had that suggested before. I should give it another go...
-
@gamerchick02 I think maybe there's a split ahead: people like @scobleizer using microblogging as a feed & those using it for conversation.
-
@120new: +1. I think mine is more of a combination of both though. I'm not as link-heavy as Scoble.
-
@joshix Isn't that just asking which is best for the greatest number of computers? I'm only interested in mine, not everyone's! ;)

@joshix Specifically though, if my machine is trying to do something that's not going to work, I'd prefer it tells me and stops trying.
-
@gamerchick02 I think the best way would be to post interesting links here, and interesting links to blog posts. Automatic posting is lame.
-
@snapl: Very good point. Maybe I'll quit autoposting. I don't do a lot of autoposting... *shrug* I'm undecided.
