First real use of Twhirl with Identi.ca. It's great, just like using it with Twitter. Much quieter here, though. Isn't that wonderful?

@jangles have you tried Twhirl on identi.ca via XMPP? Works like a charm and live updates!
-
@loic I haven't tried that but I will. Info on the Twhirl blog, I guess? i'll check.
-
@jangles I enjoy the quiet, actually. No firehose, just conversation
-
@jangles how to configure XMPP Twhirl with identi.ca http://is.gd/17D3 takes one min. Make sure you have the latest Twhirl version.
-
@loic Works nicely. Would prefer an easier way to choose where tweet goes (twitter or indentica) instead of new window
-
@loic that's great, Loic, thanks! http://tinyurl.com/5vxzdn
-
@jangles "dent" sounds like a problem that makes my insurance go up...I was hoping for deet or ding instead. or dweet? lol Oh well!
-
@sarahintampa i agree. sounds like what I ought to be doing to the work in front of me rather than typing here. :)
-
@sarahintampa "dweeb" sent - lol
-
@jackryanbauer oh, well, yeah - it's totally there :)
-
@jangles exactly!
-
@sarahintampa re: dent and insurance, haha, I hear you
-
@sarahintampa @jangles I just stick with good ol'fashioned 'post'. Why create verbs and nouns if an existing one will suffice?
-
@loic ah you have kids too .. 2,3, more?
-
@karoli lol!
-
@jackryanbauer oh no, "dweeb" is much much worse! ha ha!
-
@theelusivefish because it's fun?
-
@sarahintampa well... I guess that's a perfectly cromulent response. ;P
-
@theelusivefish are you into grammar and words? "cromulent??" ummm....googling that now
-
@sarahintampa it's not that Fx isn't light enough, it's my use of it that's so heavy; Opera: nice for play (and some email) not serious work
-
@sarahintampa I am also a tab freak, at least visually, using the tree style tab extension makes it easier for me to manage the tabs
-
@sarahintampa @theelusivefish cromulent = a crazy Romulan? just having some fun :P
-
@marjoleink are you saying opera can't handle a big load?
-
@whataboutbob i'll have to check that one out, sounds cool
-
@loic those XMPP instructions are perfect. Dead easy to set up and it works. Great!
-
@loic how secure is one's gmail password, if you enter it in twhirl for XMPP. That password's the key to lots of my stuff. A little nervous.
-
@whataboutbob urban dictionary link: http://is.gd/17DY, but I like your def better! :) idk it was @theelusivefish that said it to me
-
@jangles On the IM page, what "Preferences" have you selected? Not sure if I need to select any of them.
-
@alexbellinger The password Anti-Pattern as Jeremy Keith calls it -- better to use OAuth...
-
@dominicjones haven't selected any IM prefences there. Hadn't looked until now. But if I now have XMPP set up, maybe I need to.
-
@cgerrish: yeah, I'd like to see these new players adopt OAuth from the beginning . . .
-
@jangles Yeah, I'm not sure either. I just selected the first one for now ;-)
-
@cgerrish twhirl doesn't support OAuth though, does it?
-
@alexbellinger I have wondered that very thing. Frighting.
-
@christianburns yes, nobody's reassured me otherwise. Maybe a setting up a separate gmail/gtalk account is the way to go.
-
@alexbellinger Hmmm.. I seem to remember Twhirl supporting Oauth for FriendFeed, but I can't be sure...
-
@alexbellinger I think it would need to be Gtalk that would provide a token to Twhirl -- so some cooperation in the ecosystem needed
-
@cgerrish, @alexbellinger: Twhirl asked for the FriendFeed API key -basically a 2nd password - when I set it up, no OAuth there.
