@byteday note that using an encrypted hard drive would mitigate. Grub password would make it harder by requiring a usb drive (not a fix)
-
@pisco I guess you're right, but I doubt that it is a common practice to do so, or?
-
@ashcrow it looks to me like a common vulnerability - most users do not seem to think that far of security, do they?
-
@byteday If I have a physical access to the machine I can hack it with a hammer... and whoever tries to reboot my machine will be cursed :)
-
@byteday As allways in security, it depends of how valuable is the info, and who could be interested, i don't see it neccesary for most PCs
-
@pisco That's not enough, you must put a password into the BIOS setup or that will be futile
-
@asqueadospress ordinary users seem to be totally forgetting about security and are not aware of the value of all information they have
-
@byteday I don't say that's not true, but the possibilities that some1 enter my house & hack my PC are too low to bother encrypting the disk
-
@byteday That's not a hack, that's intentional. Physical access to practically any machine == game over. grub pw and bios pw can help
-
@byteday I have a full HDD-encrypted system. Plus: It ain't a "hack". It works on all non-encrypted system: Windows, Mac OS X, … similarly
-
@byteday look at the Gene Spafford quote (just bellow the title) to see my point: http://gnupg.morales-vazquez.com/fsegur.html

@asqueadospress can only agree! great quote!
