I wonder what someone in !japan would think if he followed this Hiberno-Greco-Geeko thread! Those guys have a head start on St. Paddy's Day!

@stav i see there are two german groups here !de and !germany - is there a technical way to merge?

      Sunday, 25-Jan-09 06:50:40 UTC

    • Stav Prodromou Stav Prodromou Cem Basman

@cemb seems to be a proliferation of duplicate groups in the 1st days. Maybe instead of #merge they can be #federated like laconica?

@cemb @stav yes a redirect of some sort would be handy i guess! same for !ie !ireland

    • Cem Basman Cem Basman

@stav is federation for groups possible? kind of "nation"?

      Sunday, 25-Jan-09 06:56:34 UTC
    • Stav Prodromou Stav Prodromou telemekus

It's up to the Laconica geniuses to figure it out, but I am sure it is possible. Question is who controls it? @telemekus suggests a redirect

@cemb what do you mean "#self-tags don't work" ? they work just fine! they're *different* from groups but that doesn't mean they don't work

      Sunday, 25-Jan-09 06:59:41 UTC
    • telemekus telemekus

@stav hmmm was just thinking, who redirects to who?, if there were 2 different owners it could turn ugly!! lol

      Sunday, 25-Jan-09 07:00:55 UTC
    • Cem Basman Cem Basman Marjolein Katsma

      @marjoleink when i click on a self-tag i receive HTTP 500

@marjoleink after one adds self-tags, how do you think they help other identica users?

    • telemekus telemekus

@stav maybe ill save laconica people work and put a "just go to other group!" message on descripton section? one solution!

    • Stav Prodromou Stav Prodromou telemekus

@telemekus For those who can read it would. But does that include any #irish? :-D

      Sunday, 25-Jan-09 07:03:00 UTC
    • telemekus telemekus

@stav but maybe it would be better for laconica if they said these 2 groups are V similar, merge and redirect! (like forum admins) #choices

      Sunday, 25-Jan-09 07:03:03 UTC
    • telemekus telemekus

@stav Maybe upon registration, person could choose nation, country, etc, could be used to remove some groups!

@rjeffries if you click on one of your own self-tags (or someone else's in their profile) you get to see who else has that same interest

@telemekus all good ideas. @casarven is our UI expert. I'm sure he and @evan can discuss rational approach

@stav maybe master group and then people can add group tags! which all point to master groups! so M/Group Ireland, Tags irish, ie etc

      Sunday, 25-Jan-09 07:07:52 UTC
    • Ron K. Jeffries Ron K. Jeffries Marjolein Katsma

@marjoleink Cool bean! (I was the one who suggested self tags, so I'm glad they work the way you want)

    • Cem Basman Cem Basman Evan Prodromou , telemekus

@telemekus not a bad idea - country in profile and half-automatic membership in a national group. promotes the group feature too. @evan?

@rjeffries except they seem to be broken with the new release - but that's just a new #bug (adding to my list <grumble/>)

    • Cem Basman Cem Basman Ron K. Jeffries

@rjeffries reserving airport codes, tld country codes, country names is a cool idea - check list in profile and propose a group. cool.

      Sunday, 25-Jan-09 07:11:59 UTC
    • Cem Basman Cem Basman Ron K. Jeffries

@rjeffries but it should have priority before there it starts a battle about national or refional battle about group memberships here.
