    I want to turn dma off before system boots, so hdparm isn't solution... libata.dma=0 doesn't work.. :| !gentoo !linux

      @pbm try to add /dev/sda { dma=off } to /etc/hdparam.conf, where sda is your disk and reboot !linux !debian

      @mezgani correct me if i'm wrong, but that will be checked after kernel boots up...

      @pbm Hmm. AFAIK you can turn off the DMA support in !linux entirely (in drivers section). It may or may not be solution. !gentoo

      @mpiechotka DMA Engine support (DMADEVICES) is turned off, but i still have massages about dma timeout (!gentoo !linux)

      @pbm yes that will be automatically applied at boot, you can also use hdparm for that, and keep an entry to your rc.local, see man hdparm

      @mezgani but it will be applied after kernel boot part, when init.d files are started or when kernel starts ide drives?
