I like #limit140 characters, because I can read them at a glance as they come in. More than that becomes a distraction, have to shift focus.
-
And I can still express a complete thought in #limit140. Or is it just that my thoughts are short or ill-formed?
-
@michaeltwofish well, if you listen @exador23, it's because you can't form good thoughts with just 140. Otherwise, abbrvt?
-
@edythemighty @michaeltwofish no. it is quite easy to form a simple thought in #140. But it can take more to explain that http://ur1.ca/lrw2
-
@michaeltwofish No - your thoughts are well formed, succinct and to the point.
-
@exador23 There you go, a simple thought, with a link to something longer, something I had to _read_ not just glance at.
-
@michaeltwofish but without it you would have sat there wondering if i'd just accused you of being a simpleton. happens often in 140.
-
@exador23 Can't say I've felt that often with 140 character limit. Either I'm thick skinned or I don't converse with you enough.
-
@michaeltwofish I always ask if I'm unsure. but i've watched a number of heated arguments based on similar misunderstandings.
-
@exador23 Either way, if posts become significantly longer, µblogging would lose its appeal for me, and I'd probably just leave. /me shrugs
-
@exador23 Heated arguments will happen no matter what the forum. We're not perfect at translating thoughts to words or words to thoughts.
-
@michaeltwofish here's what microblogging at 300 looks like brainbird.net if that's too much to handle, well, I don't know what else to say.
-
...and that's with about 15% less horizontal width before line-wrapping versus identica.
-
@exador23 It's about choice and opinions. No one's necessarily right or wrong. And yes - my brain can just about cope with BrainBird :-)
-
@andyc sure. I'd be cool with a global pref that truncates at 140 with a ↓ to expand any post you wanted more of, but t http://ur1.ca/ls26
-
@michaeltwofish @andyc @exador23 Any limit is arbitrary, so I say stick with 140. If you want more, use BrainBird. #limit140

@fabsh @michaeltwofish @andyc I've already said all i needed to here http://ur1.ca/lsal there's nothing I can add in 140.
-
@fabsh Yes, I see where "micro" is always defined as "140." Very mysterious. I wonder how Twitter stumbled on the perfect number?
-
@fabsh BTW, God made Adam and EVE, not Adam and GREATER THAN ONE HUNDRED FORTY CHARACTERS.
-
@frankenspock The original rationale was "username: + 140 characters of text" fit in a 160-character SMS.
-
@fo0bar I'm aware of that. Please stay off the failed sarcasm.
-
@exador23 What I want from µblogging is glanceability. Brainbird confirms to me that 300 isn't glanceable for me.
