people that use !ubuntu should read more interesting stuff like http://is.gd/84h6x rather than complain about the default search engine
-
@coolgoose First ubuntu-one back-end closed sourced in open source distro, then an technically inferior Search for money, whats next?
-
@coolgoose you mean !ubuntu hiding the GIMP and OpenOffice.org and moving to Bing as default search has nothing to do with who they employ?
-
@ruiseabra: i love gimp, i use it at home, but for your average joe is hard to use, the OO removal afaik is only for the netbook edition.
-
@habtool: It's a free distro, not really an open-source one, it never was. (proprietary drivers and such). And yahoo search is removable ;)
-
@bigbrovar I agree with u, ubuntu is doing good work, but must not be evil, then get upset when users call them out on it. floss expectation
-
@coolgoose no, GIMP is not hard to use. That's plain BS. And OO.o removal from NBR is just another way to show ubuntu NBR is less than Win7
-
@ruiseabra:GIMP is hard to use it's not BS.Maybe with the new unified interface it will be easier for noobs.and what stops you to put OO on7
-
@coolgoose you totally miss the point. OO.o and GIMP are excellent showcases of the power of Free Software, and are being hidden away.
-
@coolgoose basic stuff is *NOT* hard to do on the GIMP, it's actually quite trivial.
-
@coolgoose what is hard to do in GIMP is hard because of the nature of what is being done.
-
@coolgoose I'm not a graphics guru or anything similar, my usage is very basic.
-
@ruiseabra: people that i asked to edit their image in gimp for fixing red eyes and do some colour fixing spent a lot of time looking around
-
@coolgoose those are not basic usages. Sorry.
-
@coolgoose Besides, you're confusing the scope of GIMP vs the scope of photo viewing with pre-defined (and fixed) set of manipulations.
-
@coolgoose One is complementary to the other, but one can do all, and the other quite definitely not.
-
@ruiseabra: what do you consider "basic" features then ? :)
-
@coolgoose select tools, copy & paste
-
@coolgoose choosing a paint tool & colour, drawing something.
-
@coolgoose a 5 y old can do that with gimp. So maybe your users are under 5 years old?
-
@ruiseabra: ah, my bad then. I was thinking at a completely different use case it seems.
