I see the #hashtag subscription #featurerequest http://laconi.ca/PITS/00464 as allowing subbed #'s to hit your stream. replying adds #.

@exador23 That was certainly my intent. #hashtag as @user, essentially.

@kshep I know, that's awesome! Still, if there's a new identi.ca app in town (as there evidently is with rssdent) I want to know about it!

@kshep and if you could subscribe to a #hashtag, it would alleviate @dustin's problem re: forgetting to use it.

@kshep I just realized we could do a test case: account @hashtag. something to track #hashtag (inc plural) & post to @hashtag maybe?

@exador23 "language is open source" - I like that! :) If I could favorite posts on identi.ca, I'd fave that one. Hope we'll get that soon!

@forteller in the meantime, I'm curious to play around w/ #star or #fave and http://identi.ca/notice/215501 until we get accurate (irt...)

@exador23 Was just thinking the same thing. There's nothing preventing somebody from using a "fake" user as a sort of group/hashtag.

    • Hippy Steve Hippy Steve Ken Sheppardson

@kshep getting RSS implemented for #hashtags would make it easier.

    • Dustin Sallings Dustin Sallings

@exador23 I've been thinking about a personal RSS feed for tracks (to pick up the ones I miss when offline). Would that be useful?

      Sunday, 03-Aug-08 21:44:24 UTC
    • Hippy Steve Hippy Steve Dustin Sallings

@dustin alas I only know basics of what RSS does. I do not use it myself, I keep things simple. so I can't answer that question.

@dustin The personal RSS feed for tracks would be useful, but I'm already subscribed to RSS feeds for searches. Same thing?

      Sunday, 03-Aug-08 21:47:44 UTC
    • Dustin Sallings Dustin Sallings

@exador23 Basically, I want an RSS feed of every message I'm interested in (in addition to seeing them happen live).

      Sunday, 03-Aug-08 21:48:23 UTC
    • Dustin Sallings Dustin Sallings Marina Martin

@marinamartin Sort of...not exactly. Unified management. You track something here, your feed just works. :)

      Sunday, 03-Aug-08 21:48:48 UTC
    • Marina Martin Marina Martin Dustin Sallings

@dustin I'd prefer it that way, yes. Tracking is hugely important to me (and lots of others I've talked to).

@dustin What say we skip the hacks and build something general? :-) Incoming XMPP, RSS -> filters -> your choice of XMPP, RSS, or SMS?

      Sunday, 03-Aug-08 21:49:54 UTC
    • Marina Martin Marina Martin Dustin Sallings

@dustin And email tracks, too, if I'm writing a wish list. Hacked one together through Twitter when their tracks worked, back when.

      Sunday, 03-Aug-08 21:49:55 UTC
    • Ken Sheppardson Ken Sheppardson Marina Martin , Dustin Sallings

@dustin ...or email, per @marinamartin. With groups, schedules, control whatever client you've got... like GrandCentral for your data.

      Sunday, 03-Aug-08 21:51:15 UTC
    • Dustin Sallings Dustin Sallings Ken Sheppardson

@kshep You're pretty much describing what I've built. :) Just need to write the RSS component - maybe email (though I won't use it).

    • Ken Sheppardson Ken Sheppardson Dustin Sallings

      @dustin It's not in Ruby, is it? X-( ;-)

      Sunday, 03-Aug-08 21:52:12 UTC
    • Dustin Sallings Dustin Sallings Ken Sheppardson

@kshep Heh. Yeah, it's mostly ruby. It's well componentized such that modules can be written in different languages.

@dustin been mostly offline over weekend, so missed replies. Thanks for sorting. Calmed down now. You're doing great work. Bugs is bugs!

@marinamartin says that federation is working across laconi.ca instances. Is this true? If so, are there docs saying how to do it?

      Sunday, 03-Aug-08 21:55:17 UTC
    • Dustin Sallings Dustin Sallings Alex Bellinger

@alexbellinger Thanks. I appreciate your patience. Can't learn if nothing's broken...

Who can help @dave get started with federating? I'm not technically-savvy enough and @dacort is out watching jets :)

      Sunday, 03-Aug-08 21:57:20 UTC
    • Marina Martin Marina Martin Dave Winer

@dave Just replied to your post. I'm successfully getting messages on identi.ca from grupr.us (@dacort's), for one.

      Sunday, 03-Aug-08 22:00:46 UTC
    • Ken Sheppardson Ken Sheppardson Dave Winer

@dave It's basically user by user connections. From one instance you can subscribe to a user on another.

      Sunday, 03-Aug-08 22:01:01 UTC
    • Marina Martin Marina Martin Dave Winer

@dave Note how http://identi.ca/dacort and http://grupr.us/dacort have 2 diff streams, both subscribe to identi.ca/marinamartin though

@kshep. it looks like the replies tab has an RSS feed. so if @hashtag replies were auto-posted by @hashtag.... maybe?

      Sunday, 03-Aug-08 22:07:26 UTC
    • wil wil Dave Winer

@dave I'm subscribed to you from both my identi.ca and waka.me account, but had to reply to you here because remote replies don't yet work.

      Sunday, 03-Aug-08 22:10:18 UTC
    • Hippy Steve Hippy Steve Ken Sheppardson

@kshep the downside to @hashtag account and subbing to #hashtags is a lot of double posts if you already sub to the people posting there.
