  1. Deirdre Deirdre

    The neighbours' chooks have adopted this place as their second home (so I'm a chook mummy). Today they all sat with the dogs under the deck.

      ...The dogs looked a bit perplexed, like they were thinking, "WHAT are these birds, and WHAT are they doing here??" The chooks didn't care.

      @120new You're demonstrating, there, why a #limit280 would be quite useful sometimes.

      Friday, 12-Feb-10 09:53:27 UTC
    • Deirdre Deirdre Dave Cridland

      @dwd No! Really?? 280 for the longer win!

      Friday, 12-Feb-10 09:55:15 UTC
    • Deirdre Deirdre Dave Cridland

      @dwd I didn't do it deliberately, in fact. And I still quite like the gap in the middle of two notices - it lends a bit of something extra.

      @120new Adds a bit of drama. :-)

    • Dave Cridland Dave Cridland

      @120new ... But seriously, I'm increasingly leaning toward no limit - if people are silly enough to write an essay, I'll block 'em.

      Friday, 12-Feb-10 10:00:24 UTC
    • Deirdre Deirdre Dave Cridland

      @dwd What if someone writes one essay for every 20 <140s? ^_^ Things might get really complicated around here. Block? Unsub? Scan? Filter?

      @120new If anyone is writing an essay using a status update tool, I'd say that they are probably using the wrong tool.

      @120new Same problem as if someone writes an essay...

      @120new ... spread across many posts ...

      @120new ... that then need to be read together ...

      @120new ... to make any sense.

      @csarven Yes, and I plan to test that idiotic writing-an-essay idea here as soon as possible ;) (No, not really.)

      @120new Now there's a feature idea - making a conversation a favourite instead of just a isolated post. @evan?

      Friday, 12-Feb-10 10:18:26 UTC
    • Deirdre Deirdre Dave Cridland

      @dwd Would you just include the parent notice in the favourites tab? Or would it have to go into a new favourite-conversations list?

      Friday, 12-Feb-10 10:23:19 UTC
    • Dave Cridland Dave Cridland

      @120new iono. Just showing the favourites in the conversation context by default would do me.

    • Deirdre Deirdre Dave Cridland , Gregg H

      @dwd I saw a suggestion by @greggish about showing the most-popular conversations on the front page; I think it's a good idea.

      Friday, 12-Feb-10 10:25:19 UTC
    • Deirdre Deirdre Dave Cridland

      @dwd "iono"? Could you tell me what that means, please? I googled, but to no avail.

      @120new "I don't know" - mumble it, and you'll see.

      @120new ... with more characters I could spell such things out, you see. :-)

      @120new @dwd I also suggested that conversations should be made subscribeable. http://identi.ca/conversation/19654469 .

      @greggish Subscribeable conversations could be like groups? That'd be good. If they got really long, I'd prefer they broke into pages, btw.

      @dwd that's a cool idea. I think under the covers we'd need to do more to reify threads, but... could be cool. Thinking Gmail x Techmeme UI.

      @evan lol, people on buzz want to be able to fav individual post, and people on identica want to fav conversations

      @evan I'll claim that idea. Ignore @greggish and @120new, they copied my idea before I even had it.

      @stoney Lucy the dog, looking worried about 3 of the neighbours' 12 chooks, in the shade under the deck yesterday: http://ur1.ca/m7or

      Saturday, 13-Feb-10 01:06:59 UTC
    • Deirdre Deirdre Deb Scott

      @stoney That's the first time the chooks & dogs have been so close together. The birds are scared of sudden noises, but not dogs. #weirdness

      @120new it took me until just this moment to realize you've been talking about chickens when you use the word "chook."

      Saturday, 13-Feb-10 01:14:31 UTC
    • frankenspock frankenspock

      @120new it means absolutely nothing here. I figured you were talking about some weird hybrid muskrat or hog or something.

    • Deirdre Deirdre frankenspock

      @frankenspock Uh-oh. Does "chook" mean something else in the US?

      Saturday, 13-Feb-10 01:19:01 UTC
    • Deirdre Deirdre frankenspock

      @frankenspock Well, I did translate it the first time I mentioned chooks, but you probably insist on subbing millions of people & missed it.

      @120new Ooooh! Thank you! Lucy does look quite worried -- the chooks are quite close, as if she is one of them, nearly. It's so odd.

      @120new And I would have thought fowl would stay clear of canines. Lucy does not appear to enjoy being the life guard on duty.

      @stoney I agree, it seems strange the hens are so unconcerned about big animals with teeth, and right from the start, too; no hesitation.
