What does everyone think about the Sigma DP1 ?
Wednesday, 06-Aug-08 03:28:01 UTC from web-
@edythemighty Sigma was my first SLR in 1996. Autofocus was always kind of slow.
-
@scottwilder That's a problem many are pointing out with the DP1. Interested in a compact DSLR but not sure what I want.
-
@edythemighty An Olympus E420 w/25mm f2.8 pancake might be better. Or a Pentax K200D w/21mm f/3.5 limited. Both kits are small but capable.
-
@honestguy Thanks for the input. *hurriedly scribbles down names*
-
@edythemighty I'm loving my canon xt. Prices should be going down as the xs and xsi replace it.
-
@edythemighty If you want a compact lightweight kit, Pentax makes a whole line of tiny sharp lenses called limiteds, wides to telephotos.
-
@scottwilder I have the xsi in amazon in a tab here as we "speak". For the price of the xti I figure I could spring for the xsi
-
Also looking into Pentax, as @honestguy suggests :3
-
@edythemighty XSi is a small and excellent body, but there are few small Canon lenses. If portability is key, avoid Canon.
-
@honestguy It's a gift :3 I'm guessing the gift-receiver wants something light(ish) and portable, for going out walking around campus.
-
@edythemighty probably be good to head to your local camera shop to actually see which ones feel good in your hands.
-
@scottwilder As it's a gift, and knowing her, whatever feels just right in my hands will feel heavy in hers xD
-
@edythemighty Used to be a camera salesman. Old habits. :) Canon's G9 is also decent. Not as good in low light, but small and good quality.
-
@edythemighty @honestguy be careful when you start buying photo gear...it gets mighty addictive and expensive ;)
-
@honestguy Well, you can slowly teach me more xD
-
@aaronm Don't I know it! Looking at shelves full of Canon lenses, bodies and bags as we speak.
-
@aaronm As addictive as buying music gear every couple of months because you just have to have that new effects pedal for your guitar?
-
@scottwilder @honestguy @aaronm I still have until next year to figure it out xD Appreciate any input from you guys
-
@aaronm human
-
@edythemighty Worse. At least you can't take bad cat portraits or flower macros with a guitar pedal.
-
@honestguy You can keep the neighbors up all night until the hit you with a DTP notice xD
-
@edythemighty oh yeaaa...almost more so...i got through the whole pedal phase for my guitar but I can't shake the lens addiction!
-
@edythemighty @honestguy that canon 200-400 4.0 is what I'm salivating for
-
@honestguy don't remind me...just added a 85L and 16-35L to the collection...yikes!
-
@aaronm lack of ability to communicate nuance certainly patly the technology, but mostly there is juist a barrier to understanding sometimes
-
@aaronm I just picked up an epiphone valve jr. first time not using amp modeling box. Need to get some pedals now.
-
@scottwilder uh oh...thats the first step down a dark path...first comes the head, then the vintage tubes...then the pedals ;)
-
@scottwilder @aaronm The day I get an Epiphone LP is the day you see me on youtube showing off :3
-
@edythemighty whatever you do, make sure you get a fast 50mm lens. Great for portraits. I got the cheaper canon 50mm 1.8 lens. It's nice!
-
@aaronm Oooh, nice glass. :) My next object of lust is the 135L. Portraits and concerts are my native territory. I like my 135SF, though.
-
@aaronm I like the vibe of stomp boxes. But some sort of all-in-one unit seems more financially sensible
-
@aaronm @scottwilder @honestguy I should mention, my dear photographer friend tends to do nature and still-life-like shots.
-
@karoli the microcommunications force people to be more succinct, so i can see how a good amount of understanding can be lost in translation
-
@scottwilder did you use line6 at all? i always wanted to try their pod system out, seemed to be the best of the modelers from what i read
-
@aaronm what did satriani say? A marshall, a tube screamer and an echoplex and he's essentially got all he needs.
-
@scottwilder Satch has a new toy out. Calls it the Satchurator. You can hear him using it in Prof Satchfunkilus and the Musterion of Rock
-
@honestguy you've got my number there - i love portraits and landscapes - i everyone tends to love those ;) want to do more cityscapes...
-
@aaronm I used a pod back when they were pretty new. Their new pedalboards are pretty slick. That delay box they have is killer.
-
@aaronm Not much of a landscape guy myself. I like people in shots. I do a lot of street shooting. Cartier-Bresson is my homeboy. :)
-
@edythemighty I like satriani alot. His playing has a sense of fun and humor that alot of the guitar slingers don't have.
-
@edythemighty @aaronm @honestguy any of you guys selling on istockphoto? making any money on sites like that? Is it hard to get into?
-
@honestguy love the b&w - do you stick to that or do you shoot color as well? @scottwilder need to get back to electric...all acoustic now
-
@scottwilder Stock shooting is no replacement for a day job. :(
-
@aaronm Oh yeah. B&W and street is like peanut butter and jam. Made for each other.
-
@aaronm When I play out; it's me and my taylor. gonna try to work the electric in a few songs. and maybe a looping pedal? Digitech Jamman?
-
@aaronm http://tinyurl.com/57pwd8 Hard to send photos published under my real name via anonymous account. Hope noone recognizes it. :)
-
@scottwilder hmm...loop pedals...not much experience with the jamman, you think about the BOSS-RC2?
-
@scottwilder @honestguy @edythemighty portraits are harder and more fun IMO...you have to be able to capture their 'essence' in one frame!
-
@honestguy great capture! did you use a haze filter to get the hazy look or was it foggy out? love the atmosphere
-
@aaronm @scottwilder @honestguy Behold, my masterpiece: http://tinyurl.com/5aft5q
-
@aaronm Completely natural, no filters. That city is foggy most of the time.
-
@edythemighty gotta realize it's better to capture the moment at all than to get bent out of shape from it not being perfect ;) thats later!
-
@edythemighty I actually like it. Very natural. No boring formal posing.
-
@aaronm tried the boss. Not very intuitive.
-
@scottwilder love the taylor sound...switched over to martin two years ago because the actions were much faster, miss taylors a little ;)
-
@scottwilder and yea, the boss is not super-intuitive at first, but once you get the hang of it, it does its job perfectly
-
@aaronm More fog. http://tinyurl.com/6n8uup And now I'll stop spamming photos. :)
-
@edythemighty I don't have a masterpiece yet. http://flickr.com/photos/scottwilder/2378041085/in/set-72157604332385892/
-
@honestguy @scottwilder mismatch...fog was for honestguy ;) now I see what @karoli was talking about!
-
@aaronm still way too easy to do LOL
-
@aaronm room called "the vault" where some of the really nice guitars are available to play. They claim to not sell b-stock anymore. Fail!
-
@karoli no joke...and if you throw in #twitter, #friendfeed, etc...good lord. i need one client that knows who i'm talking to!
-
@scottwilder very cool - and way too bad about the bstock...what are a few blemishes for the same sound and major savings?
-
@aaronm they claim to destroy them. I don't believe that for a second. I bet employees get first shot at purchasing them. then to retailers.
-
@aaronm That's unfortunate. I have GC-> cell working. Would be nice to consolidate all voicemail at GC.
-
@scottwilder no way on earth do they destroy them. unless by 'destroy' they mean sell to musiciansfriend.com, who lists them as "returns"
-
@aaronm Hey, don't bag on musiciansfriend ;-;
-
@edythemighty haha, i'm not baggin on them, i'm simply pointing out a lucrative business model ;)
-
@aaronm It gets me my gear cheap. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth
-
@edythemighty lol, true that - i bought a rogue guitar (read:beater) from them, with a deluxe softcase & shipping, for $50. incredible
-
@edythemighty love the musicians friend stupid deal of the day. kind of liek their version of woot.com
-
@scottwilder @aaronm I'm lacking a hardcase. I look at musiciansfriend every other week and browse...can't afford the nice ones :(
