@caramdir Why not use Maxima? It's available for practically any OS you use--windows, mac, linux

@amscomath: the ubuntu karmic maxima (and sage) packages are rather broken and i didn't want to fiddle around to fix them.

@amscomath: also, wolfram alpha is really convenient (try handing it some function or equation). makes me consider buying mathematica.
