   My sister's family moved overseas some years ago & now I know they've acclimatised: they call their summer footwear "jandals", not "thongs".

     "Jandals" and "thongs" probably don't translate. I think they're called "flip-flops" elsewhere.

     @120new UK use 'flip-flops' and have endless amusement at the Oz 'thongs' (which are G-string panties). Or so they tell me.

     @andyc I think they look like a skimpier version of sumo-wrestler outfits. But REAL thongs are shoes, anyway, worn for comfort.
