Do I need to stretch out the time that tags stay relevant? #oscon08 is gone, #linuxworld is dwindling, even #poetry is disappearing.

@evan Don't know why but I cannot get authorization in pidgin, any help would be appreciated, thanks :)

@evan as long as people talk about something, isn't it relevant? maybe combine # of mentions and time elapsed since mentioned

    • Ken Sheppardson Ken Sheppardson

@evan What's the goal? Show what people are talking about right now, or show what they used to be talking about. :-)

@evan simple answer, yes. does it scale time with tag quantity?

@johndrinkwater Each notice is valued with decreasing exponential value, exp(-age/10 days). Tag weight is sum of all notices with the tag

@evan I'd go with multiple view of tags... top all time, relevant past X days, etc. look to how others do it as well

@evan so can you give me a link to getting stuff to work together? XMPP for Dummies?

@evan or anyone else know why notices/new?status_textarea=mymessage would give a No such user errror? Is there another &variable I can pass?

@evan I would; I think it will facilitate more conversation. Also, currently doing a search for (e.g.) tagname doesn't return tag/tagname…

      Shouldn't #hashtags be included in search so that a search for #example returns tag/example…? @evan @identica

      Friday, 08-Aug-08 17:07:26 UTC
    • forest mars forest mars Identi.ca microblogging service

To be clear, I mean a search for "example" and not a search for "#example" @evan @identica

@evan I suppose that depends on how long you want tags to stay relevant.

Identi.ca rocks my world for letting me see others' reply tabs + showing replies no matter where the name is in the dent. Go @evan & co!

@evan if there is a way to disregard multiple instances of a #hashtag in one post in the algorithm, it'll help with the #abuse a ~tiny~ bit.

@marinamartin There's a level of personal transparency here that I like. It's a little unnerving, but I feel like it's a better way.

@svdodge I love the transparency. If someone asks a question I can see the answers instead of having to do a Summize search. Way better.

@mcnee Try removing WordIdentica and installing http://bitbucketlabs.net/laconica-tools instead.

      @evan re frequency of posts (ref @rsseo <http://identi.ca/rsseo>, @derricklo <http://identi.ca/derricklo> ) - is TwitterFeeds' 5 updates ev

@evan I think you have to strongly consider doing something forceful about rsseo. I.e. removing for bad behaviour. It pollutes the network.

@fritzy: I'm able to send but not receive. Since I changed my JID, I bet there's a cache entry gone bad somewhere.

@evan it seems that you are not using mb_string or iconv.. why not? it will fix a lot of internationalization problems like bug: #179

      Saturday, 09-Aug-08 08:15:59 UTC
    • Anton Anton

@evan thought about #tags: maybe it's better not to treat combinations like #123 (numbers only) as tags, or at least exclude 'em from cloud?

      Saturday, 09-Aug-08 14:27:12 UTC
    • Evan Prodromou Evan Prodromou Georgi Sokolov

@whisperwind No, it won't! The DB can only handle 140 bytes, so mb_strlen() would be wrong. Need to fix the DB, and it's a big job.

@evan, we can do alter tables script, but I don't know if it can be run on the serves and how long time it'll take but I think UTF8 is good

@whisperwind You need to be clearer. Do you mean a "darcs get"? Maybe you've got file permissions problems on your workstation?

@evan, I fixed that or at least to fixed itself, it seems to be network connection problem

@whisperwind I know about the problem, I know what to do about it, need to have time to rebuild the DB. Probably mid-next-week.

@bugabundo There's an explicit exception right now for ticket_modify for you. Can I pull it and see if you're still in 'authenticated'?

@fritzy: we're releasing our JavaScript XMPP library, but not open-source, at least to start.
