our writer seems to have some sort of M-dash fetish, uses them constantly.
-
@mattress What are you talking about — There's nothing wrong with em-dashes — or are you just overly sensitive — or what? :-)
-
@rohdesign Elitism has many faces. I think elistists want newbs to be impressed with them. What good is being Elite without newbs to awe?
-
@rohdesign I prefer moderation in all things — even m-dashes. There are other grammatical tools to explore, like semi-colons.
-
@heygabe elitism sans-fawning newbies = curmudgeonism
-
@heygabe Maybe there's an elitist to newb ratio that at some point breaks if the newb value is too high?
-
@mattress I like colons: but semi-colons are nice; as they provide some options: then again: colons are more balanced; would you agree? :-)
-
@rohdesign: Semicolons: Only use them to join complete thoughts; Colins: Use them to indicate causality and lists.
-
@rohdesign colons and semi-colons are two different beasts with completely different uses; use both. Visually, colons are more balanced tho.
-
@mattress Neither do I. I'll probably have a smartphone sometime next year. The email/web is nice, making sms redundant.
-
@dashmybuttons ooh. gotcha. i'll have to learn to go thru the conversation history before contributing :p
-
@dashmybuttons I'm too cheap to pay for either SMS or internet on my phone...
-
@gregnotcraig Dude, no problem, I'm overcaffinated and passionate today, so I'm sure I'm all over the place.
-
@mattress if it were up to me I'd have internet over sms.
