Corbet w/ great summary of IBM mess @lwnnet: ur1.ca/tspd Still sick to my stomach at Apple-style "can only run our software on our hardware"
-
I was thinking last night how bad proprietary licenses get. Idea of "our software only on our hardware" is disgusting. Blog at: ur1.ca/tvy3
-
@bkuhn agreed, thats yet another thing I hate, hence posting http://ur1.ca/t42r
-
@fontana, I think it's more than mere lawyer narowmindedness, given that "our software only on our hardware" clauses are actively enforced.
-
@bkuhn Well, it has a long history. I have a blog article about it: http://yuhong386.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!57E2793D0C53276F!164.entry

@bkuhn Yea, a big topic in the IBM antitrust lawsuit was PCM manufacturers fighting with IBM to allow IBM software to run on their hardware.
-
@bkuhn If you think undocumented APIs are bad enough, IBM mainframes has undocumented *CPU instructions* used in it's own OSes like z/OS.
-
@lwnnet Well what about Xbox, Playstation, Wii, some mobile phones????
