      @sandesh247 in !linux and !windows alt+tab for switching apps and ctrl+tab for windows in current app (for almost all apps, anyway)

      @sandesh247 probably on macs too - it's one of those fairly universal things (like ctrl X C V for cut copy and paste)

      @xoke hmm, but I want to do that for non-tabbed apps. like, say, taskSwitchXP switches between open notepad instances in !windows.

      @sandesh247 not tabbed apps I just alt+tab between. Not sure of a way of switching for just that app though, sorry

      @xoke personally, I feel that feature is a tab-killer. alt-tab can't focus inside these "hidden" tabbed windows. it's a 2-level search.

      @sandesh247 what key would you use to tab between them though? shift, ctrl and alt are all used with tab... maybe ctrl+alt?

      @sandesh247 I sincerely hope there is; I really miss that behavior from OSX.

      @xoke: yep, Ctrl+alt+tab is what taskSwitchXP uses. a bit cumbersome though.

      @jobias: Couldn't find a way yet. If you are using windows, there's an app, taskSwitchXP, that can do it for you.

      @sandesh247 Switching within an app is controlled by that app. Firefox uses Alt+1, 2, etc.

      @billrandall: true, but perhaps a windowmanager too, could detect multiple gedit _windows_ and allow me to switch between them, right?

      @sandesh247 Different instances, or different tabs? Toggle through multiple instances with Alt+Tab, but you already knew that.

      @xoke ctrl+tab switches tabs, not windows. i think @sandesh247 wants something like Apple's command+`

      @maco *nods* he and I discussed it further. Not used macs in years so not sure about the command+ thing

      @maco he wants to switch between two copies of mousepad or similar basically
