    is it just me, or is the google implementation of !xmpp through gtalk non-standard?

      @atoponce, i'd say they keep within the !xmpp standard; they just made some different choices. they do have non-standard extensions, though.

      @atoponce I don't have any problems using Psi or Pidgin on my gtalk account, so it's standard enough for most casual purposes.

      @andyk but i'm not using a gmail account for my !xmpp, and as such, can't add a #gmail contact. they _must_ add me.

      @kev just tested. a #gmail contact does not receive notification that a non-gmail !xmpp account is adding them

      @atoponce Ah, I suspect that may be the rather poor implementation on the gmail web interface. I never use that, it's weird (tech. term)
