Still amazed many lawyers find it reasonable to send text correspondence by PDF attachment, using body of email to say:"Kindly see attached"

@bkuhn Most Charitable Interpretation: seems #google's recruiters are working from a stale backup: http://mjg59.livejournal.com/122717.html

@spacehobo, yeah, I saw that comment. Still doesn't explain why they look at my resume & think: "He's looking for a junior sysadmin job!"
-
@bkuhn except in rare occasions, recruiters only make the hiring (ie: weeding) process more difficult. Not surprised in the slightest, me.
-
@fontana, It's slightly better. But point is:they don't use email for anything but to say: See attachment, even for day-to-day correspondence
-
@fontana, my theory is that lawyers have devised manners of using computers to take the maximum amount of time to increase billable amounts.
-
@bkuhn Diabolical! The best bit is that they probably never consciously realized that's what they were doing.
-
@bkuhn at least they don't scan the document, insert it into a "Word document," then email that to you.
-
@bkuhn i'm guessing they use word to write everything, and are more used to attaching a file they saved …
-
@fontana, Your statement is a corollary to a theorem I live by: "Never auto-attribute to malice what can be clearly explained by stupidity."
Richard Smedley likes this. -
@bkuhn that could be a program. call it temporalblackhole. run it and non-gui things slow down and billable hours go up.
-
@bkuhn i'm sure most conspiracy theories can be explained away by "everyone is dumber than they look."
-
@bkuhn re your Theorem I have seen that many places, and it seems both insulting and accurate at the same time.
-
@x1101, I used to be quite paranoid b/c there *are* so many horrible things done everywhere daily; most are stupidity, not malice.
-
@bkuhn there is quite heavy use of letter attachments in my area - pros include formality + neater court bundles + multiple delivery methods
-
@bkuhn on the 'increased billable hours' theory, I believe the additional work involved is done by secretaries - non-chargeable. YMMV
-
@mdke, I see that value & even do it myself when starting a coversation w/ new party. But it seems overkill for every email; that was issue.
