haven't been able to find a good replacement for winrar that works in !ubuntu. need a context menu and full rar, zip, and 7z compatibility.
-
@jephrei: wine + winrar :)
-
ha...really @alessio? i've been virtualboxin it along with other stuff i do...so i do all my unzipping and sync my ipods when i'm in there.
-
@jephrei Try searching for unrar and 7z in Synaptic. After getting it set up, I had read/write support for both formats.
-
@jephrei I use "atool" on the command line. After you istalled it type "aunpack archive" and it figures out by itself if its rar/7z/zip/tgz
-
@deadsuperhero niiiice. good deal. i'll try that. remember the package names by any chance?
-
your a bigger man than me @theloser. i rarely use command line anymore. especially when i'm a sucker for context menus.
-
@jephrei #rar is not free but you can install it: http://opencheese.com/2009/05/08/ubuntu-how-to-unrar-rar-files-with-ubuntu/
-
@jephrei Sadly I can't, it's been quite a while. Unrar's used to be called unrar-nonfree, but I think it changed to just unrar.
-
@jephrei: Whats wrong with the default file extractor? It supports all the features you want. 7zip support is enabled by installing p7zip
-
@durand just remember it extracting empty folders when I tried. p.s. Leeds is my fav english city where all my brit friends live.
-
@jephrei: That's strange. I've extracted both rar and 7zip files properly. Maybe you should try it in lucid? And leeds is awesome!
-
@jephrei perhaps i'm wrong, although you can get full rar support with winrar, i'm not sure if it provides a context menu too :(
