Turns out MeeGo will only work on Intel chips. WTF is this bullshit? How about some ARM, AMD, and SSE2 support? !linux
-
@deadsuperhero literally only Intel, not x86?
-
@deadsuperhero: Well it is open source so someone will port it. So the official one doesnt really matter all that much.
-
@bruce89: Only SSE3 Intel chips, and one for the Nokia N900's ARM chip. But still...
-
@shanefagan: I wonder if one can build it to run from inside of a Linux distro. They have their source on Gitorious.
-
@deadsuperhero: well id say not outside of a VM
-
@shanefagan: Well, that sucks. I've been in the dark on Moblin for the last few years because of my processor, and now this.
-
@deadsuperhero: UNE is working on loads of platforms
-
@ardrigh: Still, there are a lot of red flags here. It's a Free Software project that makes it difficult to use on competitors' products.
-
@shanefagan: Turns out it's a real PiTA to even try building Moblin from source currently. It'd be cool to see a "gNewSense"-styled Moblin.
-
@deadsuperhero that's because meego the distro is optimized for certain netbooks. ala moblin, expect to see meego-ui spins in other distros
-
@deadsuperhero Meego only with #Intel? WOW that is CRAP! I thought it was going on new smartphones (ARM based).
-
@ddevine: Turns out it does support ARM for the Nokia n900, but still. Wow.
-
@ddevine @deadsuperhero Only the Netbook UX of #MeeGo is out. Other UXs will be released later. More h/w support is also on the way.
-
@gaveen: It'd be interesting to do a UX for MeeGo that resembles and functions like the OLPC's Sugar interface, but with Qt and Python...
-
@deadsuperhero: Having a #MeeGo UX for kids is a cool idea. :) Start a discussion. Although current focus is getting the UXs out.
-
@gaveen True. At the moment, the "MeeGo UX" on a N900 is the world's tiniest VT100 terminal...
-
@deadsuperhero they don't support Intel, just the Intel atom processor, other processors will not work. This is simply because of netbooks
-
@deadsuperhero I have MeeGo on my N900, which is now the world's smallest VT100-compatible terminal. =P
-
@lefty: Yes, I saw that and corrected my original statement. It seems they DO support ARM alongside Intel chips.
-
@deadsuperhero For visually-unpleasant values of "support", yes. It's not a terribly high bar. Needs some work yet: my phone's _not_ now.
