@trelane if you want a darned nice netbook, look at ZaReason's Terra HD. *want so bad*
-
@maco Re: Terra HD: that must be new; it wasn't there a few weeks ago when I looked. Am examining now.
-
@maco oooooh. I really like that one, if for the screen alone. Like: screen, choice of HDDs and speeds, n-wifi, N450, cheaper batteries.
-
Mackenzie likes this.
-
@trelane and the keyboard is *full size* not one of those annoying 93% things other companies have
-
@trelane for a netbook, i dont think >2GB is needed, and bluetooth? that's the first kernel module I blacklist (bad for battery & security)
-
@maco I should blacklist mine too. What's the easiest way?
-
@maco I'm perhaps the only person on Earth who wishes their desktop keyboard were the eee 701/901 keyboard.
-
@maco I disagree with <2GB; as much RAM as I can get is always better for me. I end up using it. Always. And bluetooth is great!
-
@trelane havent actually found a *use* for BT yet. don't have a GPS for it to talk to... its just a battery killer and security hole
-
@trelane and im not sure what itd do with a GPS if i had one. i just know GPSes tend to have bluetooth to boost cell phone's speakerphone
-
@maco I use an external BT keyboard and mouse with my laptop at home pretty routinely.
-
@lefty i used to have an IR set but apparently working keyboard/mouse + car + I-70 = dead keyboard/mouse (repeatable for Model M too!)
-
@maco Palm stuff used IR keyboards. BT doesn't require line-of-sight. I wish AV equipment had BT remote controls.
-
@maco A wireless headset for VOIP, music, etc. is a pretty handy use of BT.
-
@lefty: Sony's PlayStation 3 has a BT remote for BluRay control. It's _sweet_. I wish the rest of my stuff used it :(
-
@maco I use bt for a standads-compliant, dongle-free mouse, keyboard on occasion (not on netbook, tho), file transfer.
-
@trelane file transfer to...what?
-
@maco n810, other pcs. I usually leave it off unless I actively need it.
-
@flameeyes I keep thinking of checking whether anyone's written an RFC for appliance control via IP...
-
@lefty I thought that was UPnP …
-
@flameeyes I suppose UPnP RUI does a fair bit of that, but there are plenty of functions it doesn't have a clue about...
-
@maco thank you
