!q I wanted a perfect ending. Now I've learned, the hard way, that some poems don't rhyme, and some s…

@exador23 She never was funny.
-
@joshix Naw, she was funny in a you-had-to-be-there kind of way. The mid-70s were an awful time to try to make people laugh.
-
@frankenspock wasn't she "Jane you ignorant slut" on 'point & counterpoint'? (I wasn't even a twinkle in my mother eyes in the '70s)
-
@brews Jane Curtin. Who *is* funny. Gilda Radner is the dead one.
-
@yuetsu AFAIK, Hicks started performing at a local joint in 1978, & didn't tour until the 80's.
-
@joshix Larraine Newman was the who usually just appeared to be dead.
-
@frankenspock Hey, who's the barber here?
-
@joshix Now *that* was comedy. http://www.hulu.com/watch/3529/saturday-night-live-theodoric-of-york
-
@frankenspock @joshix I agree with frankenspock. Gilda was funny. Much of SNL doesn't hold up today…
-
@bill Do you mean today's SNL doesn't hold up (I agree), or that 70's SNL doesn't seem funny today (I disagree)?
-
@bill I wasn't born then, but love the 70s SNL in replay. Except Gilda. She seemed mainly to tell jokes about picking her nose.
-
@joshix What do you think about Garrett Morris, then? Aykroyd, Belushi, Murray and Curtain were funny; the others had a few moments.
-
@joshix The real star of SNL in the '70s was the cocaine- and orgy-fueled writing staff.
-
@frankenspock And Chase...
-
@jasonriedy Never liked him.
-
@bill Also, I think I pick up the ironic socio-economic stance in your paragraph, but I'm not Edmund Wilson & this isn't 'Smart Set'...
-
@bill ...so the best I can do with that is this sort of nod of acknowledgment.
-
@frankenspock Is it just because he's Chevy Chase and you're not?
-
@joshix It's because he never read a line he couldn't fit a custom-tooled smirk into. Also he was a pretty terrible actor, and still is.
-
@frankenspock Well when I was about 3 years old I thought the shouting for the deaf was pretty funny, but it might not hold up now.
-
@frankenspock He's Ty Webb in Caddyshack. I knew several real Ty Webbs at the golf club. He was fabulous in that role.
-
@joshix And then Caddyshack II happened.
-
@frankenspock Does a good Ford, though.
-
@frankenspock Oh yeah. I have a rule that I don't watch sequels (or movies "based on [games,comics,...]"), so spared myself from that.
-
@joshix @frankenspock pfffffsst. people who cling to linear timelines as if they matter. heh. they're wacky.
-
@joshix I meant that the 70's SNL doesn't hold up today, for a lot of people. I'm glad you appreciate it. I don't watch today's SNL.
-
@frankenspock Don't forget the LSD. Read somewhere that the Nixon tapes skit was written on acid.
-
@bill If it was written by Mike O'Donaghue, I wouldn't exactly be shocked.
-
@joshix I lived through it here, so it's part of my makeup. Vietnam, Nixon, Watergate, gasoline rat…
