Still trying to create high quality screen casts in !ubuntu. So far the results are okay but not great.

@damienhull out of curiosity, what software are you using right now to make screencasts, any specific problem or just general video quality?
-
@tgblb I'm using gtk-recordmydesktop to record the screencast. The theora video is awesome. Used kdenlive to edit & export as mpg4. Sucks!
-
@damienhull -@heathenx and I use rmd as well but use mencoder scripts to get to h264 and flv. It looks quite good. We could hook you up. :)
-
@rfquerin Hook me up! I would like to edit the video in kdenlive but that creates bad video with crapy colors. Maybe h264 will work.
-
@damienhull Ive not played much with kdenlive, but for a screencast, why not give avidemux a go? =)
-
@damienhull or if you aint gonna edit, just encode directly with ffmpeg/mencoder?
-
@damienhull then using pongo or istanbul will be problematic for you I think. gtk-recordmydesktop might work. haven't tried it yet.

Firefox says the plugin "Shockwave Flash" is installed. How do I remove it in !ubuntu Jaunty? It says version 9.0 r999...
-
@hz I'll give avidemux a try. I've used it once but that was it. Thanks for the info...

@damienhull if the firefox plugin manager doesn't allow removal of that plugin it was probably put there by apt
-
@damienhull -shoot me a quick email (rfquerin at gmail dot com). The discussion's probably a little more lengthy than what suits identica. :)
-
@damienhull - it sounds like you're running Jaunty. @heathenx had some problems encoding at first but now I think he's conquered it. ...
-
@damienhull - we've now got working scripts on Jaunty to convert ogv to both xVid and h264 I think.

@damienhull -one last thing. I really recommend video editing with Blender. Check out: http://bit.ly/blendervid01 http://bit.ly/blendervid02

@rfquerin thanks for pointer to your video editing post. di dyou also look at Kino? is flip your on;y video source for now?
-
@ronkjeffries I've tried Kino, Kdenlive,& Cinelerra. I like Blender a LOT better. My Flip crapped out on me. Now using Kodak Zi6. Love it.
-
@rfquerin thanks you have saved me some time in terms of which Linux video editor to use. what sort of PC config are you using w/Blender
-
@ronkjeffries - I've used both my desktop (a 5 yr old P4-3GHz running Intrepid) and my laptop (a new Dell XPS13 running CrunchbangLinux).
