Just installed !ubuntu after 3 years on !archlinux. Hope I need ess time for system customisation, more time for !emacs customisation. :)
-
@phaer Why not just save the configuration files or put them in !git or !hg and have them always when you need them?
-
@phaer pls how did u get gwibber to work on your ubuntu10.04 any tips have issues with min
-
@pradeep: It is in the default install and i worked fine after i entered my credentials. Whats your issue exactly?
-
@phaer Sorry, my tired eyes need some rest
-
@phaer does not connect to any of my social networkjust stays blank do you of any alternative
-
@phaer nice nice, I found !ubuntu more integrated and less of a hassle when it came to major version updates
-
@pradeep: Maybe the !ubuntu forums can help you. Theres a list here: http://is.gd/dsEG8 . I've used http://is.gd/dsEJd and was quite happy.
-
@fthieme: Did you try http://is.gd/dsG9A an editor in !emacs? ;)
-
@phaer yeah, but its not !VIM ;) I must admit I use !VIM not for everything anymore. Right now I write in !LyX
-
@phaer I did, but I'm getting lazy and I don't do that much !LaTeX stuff anymore. So !LyX is just easier - mostly...
-
@fthieme That actually sounds very sensible.
-
@mjjzf I find this very appealing, too. They are in alpha stage tough...
-
@dickturpin He would said "best !archlinux based distro" I tried it & it was easiest to install.but #kahelos respect the !arch "feelling".
-
@fthieme In my opinion, half rolling release will make for a nightmare to maintain (for the chakra devs)...
-
@dickturpin !chakra has its roots in !archlinux, but it is about to evolve over arch. So IMHO it has the potential to be better...
-
@tioduke I don't know. Having a stable system below desktop/apps makes things easier I guess. At least easier than the KDEmod + arch model
-
@fthieme ... Sticking always to the latest and greatest solves that problem, IMO.
-
@fthieme What will happen when kde will demand for a newer graphic driver? I answer: they will have to update Xorg and maybe the kernel
-
@fthieme ...Updating one particular application will involve selecting libraries to update which will involve updating other apps, and so on
-
@fthieme So long for selecting which packages to upgrade. In the end, they will need to update everything.
-
@tioduke ever used a system like slackware? You can actually keep the system very long before any application demands something newer
-
@fthieme and they want update their base system ever 6 or 12 months - fast enough I guess...
-
@tioduke and they want update their base system ever 6 or 12 months - fast enough I guess... But time will show...
-
@fthieme Yes, but you don't HAVE to. That's the difference.
-
@fthieme Which could have been avoided by paying more attention before updating. I am still using arch + kdemod and, even now, no problems.
-
@fthieme One problem: many kde devs are arch users, which means kde is built with the latest and greatest in the mind (and PC) of the dev.
-
@tioduke I still use KDEmod + archlinux, too. But - and thats the problem with rolling release - how can you be careful before updating?
-
@tioduke as there are new updates all the time...
-
@theshade14 @tioduke yeah I know, thats what I'm referring to http://is.gd/dsZQq
-
@tioduke: Its good, but it is not as reliable as it could be for non-developers/sysadmins.
