    Feel a bit betrayed by #canonical and !ubuntu one. How to promote OSS if a company behind it think only closed software make money?

      @staz I don't understand, according to the Wikipedia page for #ubuntuone it's licensed under the GPL. #Canonical promotes FOSS.

      @staz: isn't that the way it is?

      @staz If I understand the context correctly, Ubuntu will offer the service as a competing service to Euclyptus and Amazon E2

      @mu The client is licensed under the GPLv3 ( https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntuone-client )

      I'll @stickwithjosh if he gives me some good uplifting FLOSS news to counter the doubters. :D

      Trying not to respond to any #ubuntuone negativity; I don't feel I can be objective as an employee of #canonical and a non-ubuntuone-dev.

      @mu The _client_ is licensed as GPL & Creative Commons, but the server is closed source. #ubuntuone

      @j1mc I know. But if that Wikipedia article is correct, they should have _almost_ the entire thing FOSSed by this July.

      @staz: Why do u feel so? It promised Ubuntu will always be free of charge

      @staz Is it any indication that #canonical will not release the server-side source of #ubuntuone? Will they do like they did for #launchpad?

    • staz staz Manu Ullas

      @mu The client part is GPL, not the server part and you won't go far with the client alone.

    • Manu Ullas Manu Ullas

      @staz I understand. I'm hoping they go beyond the client as they promised.

      @mongolito404 #Canonical stated they don't have any plans, even long terms, to release the source of #ubuntuone !ubuntu

      @staz I should re-emphasize, I'm talking about Launchpad. I didn't realise you were referring to #ubuntuone. Oops!

      @hongquan If it's only free as in free beer and not as in freedom then I won't care about !ubuntu

      @staz wow. I don't know what to say. I guess I won't be using UbuntuOne.
