@jonobacon - ... dude? What the... http://ur1.ca/10xfs
-
@pietercolpaert ooooh boy is there a shitstorm coming... just hope nobody posts this in the #ubuntu group
-
@rysiek the longer I use ubuntu the more I feel ashamed - next system: debian ;-)
-
@pietercolpaert: I had to use Win7 as S/PDIF In support in Linux doesn't work on the card. MS never asked for anything, let alone to "lie".
-
@jonobacon I feel sorry for you. People overexaggerate like hell these days.
-
@jonobacon So why didn't you say this on your site instead of some wierd PR mumbo-jumbo? u talk 2 geeks, u need 2 speak geek ;-)
-
@jonobacon spdif in not supported in all linux or just ubuntu? There is a difference. And you did file bugzilla or launchpad?
-
@jonobacon reading it felt like you considered GNU/Linux as an inferior product. Maybe reformulating may take away frustration of many?
-
@jonobacon S/PDIF in our out?
-
@jonobacon, you didn't have to use #MSFT rather than !Ubuntu. You chose it. Did you at least donate to support !Linux driver? ur1.ca/118ii
-
@bkuhn "... at least ..." ? Formulating it that way it does at least make you sound very arrogant.
-
@bkuhn: I did choose Windows, I agree, because support in Linux was unavailable.
-
@jonobacon Are there no USB cards out there with working S/PDIF support? I am asking out of genuine curiosity.
-
@fabsh: not within my budget and requirements (prices / quality). I did research quite a bit, and thought S/PDIF on the FastTrack worked.
-
@jonobacon Wow. I thought the M-Audio stuff was fully supported. Maybe I was wrong... Will look into this. :/
-
@fabsh: same here - the card works for hack in/out fine, and if I remember S/PDIF out works fine, but In has problems.
-
@jonobacon That is a shame... I never use S/PDIF. Why do you use it for ustream?
-
@fabsh: (1/2) it is a shame, I want to stream the recording live but don't want to overload my studio box, so I take the output of the...
-
@fabsh: (2/2) ..desk via S/PDIF into a separate laptop that streams it to ustream.tv, which means I can provide the stream without the load.
-
@jonobacon Couldn't you just go out from your desk via a phono plug to something like this: http://ur1.ca/119i4 ?
-
@fabsh: I don't have phono outs on the desk - put it this way, as soon as Linux supports the S/PDIF In, I am happy to use it.
-
@jonobacon Heh. Jack outs? You could get a jack-to-phono cable. It's not like you need digital audio quality for ustream... ;)
-
@fabsh: I use the output jacks for monitoring and headphones. In any case, I now have a working setup, when the driver works, will switch.
-
@sleepynate: agreed, but I can't afford to buy an additional Fast Track Pro and send it to a dev.
-
@jonobacon Fair enough. Looks like we will have to work on S/PDIF support.
-
@jonobacon I'd figure maybe #Cononical can. (They're working on crucial audio infrastructure anyway http://is.gd/e90a8 ;-) )
-
@fabsh: agreed - I wish there was another way, and I wish I could buy a unit and send it to a dev, but I can't afford to. :-/
-
@jonobacon It's a Fast Track? OK, I'll make a note that S/PDIF out on that is buggered, then...
-
@jonobacon I'll keep that problem in mind. If I get my hands on one, I'll send it to Lennart. :)
-
@fabsh: I actually think S/PDIF Out is fine, it is In that the problem is. There is a patch, and I tried to apply it but it failed.
-
@jonobacon Cool. Thanks for the info! :)
-
@openuniverse agree esp. the ext. what really irks me is the layout. I hear FF 4 is going to implement some of these features too. Hope not.
-
@lstench afaik the layout is theme-able and so it should be trivial to make it look like it's supposed …
-
@openuniverse I know in firefox it is but didn't know you could tweak chromium appearance all that much?
-
@fabsh: thanks for the interesting discussion. :-)
-
@jonobacon Hey, no worries. The least I could do. I mentioned this on LO, after all. Will update with the actual problem next show.
-
@lstench i'm a mozilla fan like you- all i know about chromium is it's good for mozilla to have SOME ki…
-
@lstench that, and chromium's plugin engine doesn't allow it to support an extension as sophisticated as noscript (yet?)
-
@openuniverse Not having noscript is a definite no-no. LOL!! That was a bad pun!!
-
@openuniverse Use to love opera, wish it were open source. Competition can be good.
-
@bkuhn You see: "claims to be working on" not "is working on"? This is actually what I mean. Who are we to judge him like this?
-
I blogged about the question of whether someone "must use" proprietary software. Such is rarely mandatory: http://ur1.ca/11fvy !FaiF !GNU
Osama Khalid likes this. -
@bkuhn Here is the Arabic translation. http://wp.me/pImPT-8P
-
@bkuhn when I first saw your blog post, I was afraid it was an obtuse response to this: http://deborah.dreamwidth.org/48194.html
-
@copiesofcopies,it wasn't. I attached blog to identica thread inspiring it. I gave @jzb comments on that other issue, but he hasn't published
-
@bkuhn There are some place where "have to" applies, though. As in: I *want* to play this great game, I *have to* use proprietary tech.
