@stuckbit, please realize that what you see with regards to cheering are often staged & rarely represent view of most ppl.
-
When will my fellow USAmericans finally grok this simple analogy?: Al-Qaeda is to Islam as the Ku Klux Klan is to Christian Protestantism.
-
@bkuhn Many many do grok it. When will people stop painting a country with 300+ million people with 1(or 2) brush(es).
-
@bkuhn That analogy would be better (though still imperfect) if you added 'in 1950'.
-
@sdanna, the fact USAmericans are treating issue of Mosque placement as a different question than Protestant Church placement == #disturbing
-
@webmaven,all analogies are imperfect;But mentioning Al-Qaeda in debate where Mosques go :: mentioning KKK in discussion of church placement
-
@bkuhn My point was not that those people are right, but that many are on your side of this issue, they just aren't the loudest sometimes.
-
@bkuhn Yup. Close enough.
-
Would someone protest building a Protestant church near a KKK lynching site in !NYC? If not, why are ppl protesting Mosque near Ground Zero?
Thomas Cort and Osama Khalid like this. -
@sdanna, I think I get your pt. My pt is that we're far from sanity as USAmericans b/c debate is treated as if it's a sane one to have.
-
@bkuhn I know! They are both evil!!! No Chruches, No Mosques, No Gods... real freedom :)
Christopher Murtagh likes this. -
@bkuhn Even assuming it's a mosque. Which it's not.
-
@webmink, Agreed,but frankly,I think they *should* just put mosques & churches *at* Ground Zero. There's been no progress on memorial anyway
-
@threethirty: In my gut I agree, but intolerance is intolerance, and your remark is not tolerant either!
-
@bkuhn They're proposing a mall, so kind of like a church...
-
@mfoetsch,the mall:Church for capitalists! Heck,I'm an atheist & I don't care where places of worship are built;Why should anyone else care?
-
How many Muslins live in that area? Not many. This is a purely political ploy. No to the "victory mosque" !
-
@bkuhn I agree, but I think the really issue here is that neither Al-Qaeda nor anyone else has been proven to attack the US on 9/11.
-
@osamak, I agree we can never confirm affiliations of dead suicide bombers, of course,but AFAIK Al-Qaeda leadership did actively take credit
-
@patdavila The US loves to flaunt its self as the Epitome of freedom.. Not always the case.
-
@bkuhn AFAICR, Bin Ladn said "we will do something similar to 9/11" (which they can never do!), but I don't think he has ever admitted it.
-
@patdavila How many exactly? You appear to have the numbers.
-
@osamak,there're sources that indicate Al-Qaeda took public credit for 2001-09-11 attacks,but it's true Bin Laden himself didn't take credit
-
@osamak, but anyway, the bigger & #disturbing problem we've here in USA is that far too many ppl associate Islam w/ terrorism irrationally.
Osama Khalid likes this. -
@bkuhn should be on the SAT
-
@bkuhn: you know, it's a good sign that there's still a people out there, in the USA, that think like you
Osama Khalid likes this. -
@youknowwhoxzy, I think the reason I'm so upset is that in !NYC itself, this kind of cultural double-standard doesn't occur as much.
-
@mfoetsch There's not a lot of residential space in that area. I'd be shocked if > 50
-
@alisonchaiken: trolling is a art
-
@patdavila Not a lot? Tribeca popul. 26k, SoHo (within 1mi) pop. 29k, Lower East Side (1.2mi) pop. 89k, West Village (1.5mi) pop. 72k, ...
-
@bkuhn Part of the reason they care is b/c they are misinformed (not merely uninformed but deliberately(?) misinformed)
-
@bigbrovar Freedom? That was over 200 years ago now. The US is a corporatocracy in this day and age. Some people just don't realize that yet
-
@bkuhn Exactly.
-
@mfoetsch In NYC terms that's pretty far away from where the place is going up. This is purely a political thing to anger people
-
@patdavila Apparently, there is already a mosque 4 blocks away from Ground Zero.
-
@gadgetwisdom Good for them then don't need another
-
@patdavila My neighborhood has a glut of houses of worship that have replaced businesses I used to patronize.
-
@patdavila I'm not sure being inconsiderate of your neighbors is illegal. If it was, I'd have my neighor arrested.
-
@threethirty I'm sorry if you think I was trolling but I believe that hating churches, or anything, is still hate even tho I'm atheist!
-
@alisonchaiken you should really stop taking everything so seriously. My original post was a joke (& some trolling).
-
@patdavila The problem is not the Mosque. The problem is the attitude. Deep rooted intolerance for Islam which is not healthy for the USA
-
@jargon I'm very familiar with NYC. I lived there for 25 years. In fact I know several people that were killed by 9/11 attacks. Do you?
-
@fabsh Mosque thing looks like bigotry; but it also is Islam being treated as I'd like to see all religion treated: as plague. It's a start.
-
@joshix LOL. I wish they'd start with Christianity though. Those superior-feeling fuckers have it coming...
-
@fabsh Agreed, but I'll take what I can get. All their ancient holy texts should be re-titled "when we were retards"
-
@joshix LOL! Awesome.... :D
-
@bkuhn Essentially you're right, though KKK didn't kill as many, especially not at once: ~1900 people in 100+ years. http://bit.ly/a2LaE2
-
@richslxh Yeah,those Muslims, with their geometry and their al jabr. We dont want none 'o that!
-
@richslxh oh, in the interests of full disclosure, I'm snarking WITH you, not AT you ^_^
-
@threethirty You're making the fundamental attribution error. She missed your snark this time; she may not always. ~_^
-
@patdavila When one is ignorant on a subject it's wise not to express an opinion on it. You are embarrassing us Americans...
-
@bkuhn Certain religious doctrines encourage more fundamentalism than others. You don't hear about Buddhist suicide bombers.
-
@bkuhn I do wish people would apply that logic to the US as well sometimes.
-
@stuckbit also,what cheering? Here,~nobody supports them. Anti-war,pro-peace != pro-any-unknown-group (just like the US peace groups' view!)
-
@rahulsundaram but they have been known to set themselves on fire on a busy street.
-
@moggers87 Slight difference between that and blowing up buildings, I think :-)
