Remember when modems were so de rigeur (and computers were so far apart) that peer-to-peer serial cables were called "null modems"?

@edd: I remember building a PLIP cable. It was faster than a null modem. I think we could get 70kB/sec through it!

@ciarang Yes, I just pushed it a while ago, but didn't test it. It's live on identi.ca and in the Laconica darcs repo.

@edd: yes. Just the other day, I saw +++ATZ show up on a dinosaur terminal. Coworkers confused when I aasked why it was resetting a modem.
