    I wonder why electric kettles (almost) always have the odd capacity of 1.7L. It's not imperial units: "0.449 gallons" is even odder.

      @screwtape Form over function, I think. People who need kettles rarely need more than 500mL-1L at a time, so anything over is superfluous.

      @bobthecheese I boil about 1.25L at a time; I use ~250mL to scald the pot, and make a pot of tea with the rest.
