@dotpel: you have to 'sudo passwd' first time setting password for root

@dotpel there isn't one. Prepend a command with sudo and enter your password when asked. For GUI programs, gksudo. For root shell, sudo -s

@dotpel on the live cd? Just open a terminal and type sudo su.

@dotpel: sudo -i will also put you into a root terminal session. Type EXIT to exit the root session.

@benanov thats sometimes not usable, try pipes using sudo -i (eg. sudo cat somefile > /some/dir/writable-only-for-super-suer-aka-root)
