@fontana @bkuhn, The idea is to use MIT for better interoperatability/exchange w. existing Ruby-libs. While keeping core AGPL.

#disapora demanding full copyright control and a broad patent grant http://ur1.ca/1nc78 #fail

So, sure looks like @joindiaspora is planning to go #Open_Core w/ #Diaspora. & people thought I was being alarmist. http://ur1.ca/1nc78
-
@bkuhn Either that or they are badly advised (and have not read my article) or do not want a community.
-
@webmink Many bad signs at this point
-
@webmink, we know @joindiaspora has been advised the entire summer by VCs, so it's no real surprise. VCs ♥ #Open_Core. #Diaspora

@ianmcorvidae, well, it doesn't matter so much. #Diaspora is currently 6,500 lines of #Ruby. It's more or less not even worth forking.

@rahulsundaram it's just wrong. it's sad to hear this. :(
-
@bkuhn "But the power of the BRAND!" Me, I like the opportunity to have memetic replies, e.g. "Remember Diaspora?"
-
@bkuhn what VC? have they announced something somewhere?
-
@rahulsundaram oh shit, that's crazy. what a bummer
-
@bkuhn 6500 agile lines. Agile * open source=exponential quality, throughput, features. Custom widgets=no need to fork! Duh. Get w/Web 2.0!

@bkuhn strictly speaking, having a CA doesn't mean ->#Open_core. Though it's suspicious and sec.4 is BAD omen. I'd not sign it
-
@rahulsundaram that's sad. Anyone knows if socialriver is going the same route? I surely hope not! !ostatus
-
@carlopiana, there is absolutely no reason to have a copyright assignment of that nature w/ no promise back unless #Open_Corr is planned.

The #Diaspora irony is: @joindiaspora 's © assignment regime treats developers in a similarly deplorable way as #Facebook treats its users.
-
@bkuhn and facebook treats its developers better from what I can see -.-
-
@bkuhn Did they indicate what to?
-
@fontana,#Diaspora may switch to !GPL to "help w/ contributions";assignment allows exclusive relicensing control to any FSF-approved license

@bkuhn abandon agpl for what?
-
@bkuhn I'm not surprised one bit - seriously, did anyone not see this coming? Let's all contribute to !GnuSocial and forget about Diaspora

@fontana I don't know if it's correlated, but: http://github.com/diaspora/diaspora/commits/master/COPYRIGHT or any later version of the AGPL
-
@berkes: Open Crust? ;-)
-
@bkuhn: But, what is wrong about that then? I don't see why so many are so negative about it.
