I've noticed there is a ton of peer pressure via Facebook and twitter/identi.ca to vote. I wonder if turnout will be better.

@joshbressers, well, I'll be voting, but everyone hates me because I won't vote for either of the corporate-controlled parties.
-
@bkuhn Thankfully the message isn't "vote for X!" it's "vote. Full stop."
-
@bkuhn and in what way is that bad? Sure, the people you vote for almost certinally wont get elected, but they will know they have support
-
@x1101,I don't get why people are so angry at me for it,but people have often been furious at me for failing to vote the evil of two lessers
-
@bkuhn I agree with you wholly. The only way to get past the 2 part system is to always go for the best candidate, not the lesser of the evi
-
@bkuhn That's quite sad. An informed vote is far more useful than a straight ticket with no clue.
-
@x1101, well it's not the only way. I suppose we could have a revolution instead, but that's unlikely to happen.
-
@bkuhn yeah, things aren't bad enough yet. but they are getting there...
-
@x1101 yeah but the revolution is going to go in the wrong direction...
-
@tekk how? are people going to care even less and be even less involved?
-
@fontana, I am not sure. Why do you say so? My software freedom views are mostly unrelated to my other views, I thought.
-
@fontana, Yes, that's definitely true. Perhaps my views aren't all that different. I've cultivated carefully thinking of them separately.
-
@bkuhn I never would separate my views on software freedom from other questions of human freedom
Ted Smith and Jamie Daws like this. -
@bkuhn Good for you! I wish more of us would think for ourselves instead of just absorbing what party X and media outlet Y tell us.
-
@bkuhn I would suggest that your view of the world shapes both your software and non sofware related opinons.
-
@joshbressers na, probably not. I bet there will be as many people pressured in as people who lost faith and won't vote.
-
@fontana, that would not bother me so much if they made a binding promise back to never accept anything from lobbyists. :)
-
@bkuhn I can relate. It's a bit better in Canada, but voting #GreenParty is like voting Nader - "steals" votes from Liberals/Democrats. #GPC
-
@ossguy @bkuhn After GWB in Florida, 3rd parties won't be supported by "liberals" for quite some time.

@jasonriedy, to blame a bad Supreme Court decision on the voters is silly. It is sad ppl are intimidated away from voting their conscience.
-
@bkuhn or bought.
-
@bkuhn To blame Nader's ego trip for sucking away enough votes isn't silly, however. The Greens accomplished nothing positive, much neg.
-
@bkuhn (In that election.)
-
@jasonriedy, speaking as someone who voted Green in *that* very election: I wouldn't have voted for Gore even if Nader hadn't been on ballot
-
People remember Gore as if he were his election's Obama, when in fact he spent most of his time *agreeing* w/ Bush on policy questions.
-
@bkuhn At least Gore could form coherent sentences. And I doubt he would have set forth unto war.
-
I admit if Gore had spoken the way he did in _An Inconvenient Truth_ during 2000 election, I might have believed he wasn't the same as Bush.
-
@jasonriedy, I doubt Gore would have invaded Iraq, but he surely would have Afghanistan. A Green candidate would have invaded neither.
-
@bkuhn (And yes, I do recognize how low my standards have gone. sigh.)
-
There'd be less tactical voting if we used #MMP or #STV. But ON MMP & http://enwp.org/BC-STV failed; we'll need to wait a generation or two.
-
@bkuhn Afghanistan was at least justified.Without the distraction, it could have been wrapped up long ago.(Yes, the US caused the prob.)
-
@jasonriedy, I don't think violence is ever justified, but I am also a pacifist and therefore would make a crappy Commander-in-Chief myself.
-
@bkuhn I don't see how it could have been avoided politically. But it certainly could have been more limited and focused. Lost that chance.
-
@jasonriedy Depends on the how the 3rd party works. I voted for Cuomo on the WFP line here in New York today
-
@bkuhn In my state you can vote straight ticket green (well it's mountian party but they became a green party chapter in like 07 or 08)
-
@bkuhn No matter who you vote for, the people lose. Voting only allows us to choose our masters. Free people organize and govern themselves.
