@fmars Put it another way - have you ever seen anybody on identica or Twitter for that matter go over the 140 limit noticably & successfully

@fmars 255 would be fine. I usually overrun by 50 more at most.

@mrqwerty re: artificial, arbitrary 140 char limit. Agree but sometimes brevity is all and sometimes less is more.

@andyc I appreciate that's likely the case. But 1) at this stage, not the case and 2) I do like to join in convos that interest me.

@mrqwerty Don't do it (bump to 255) because all your thousands of readers on a mobile will only get 78.5% of all your conversations :-)

@fmars IMO changing limit above 140 would be a mistake. we get used to discipline of 140 chars. ;) not a biggie. ident.ca is not a novel

@andyc - often I can do it, but the frustration is reviewing a sentance and having to abbreviate words, lose adjectives, generally destroy..

mrqwerty @tomlegg's got the right idea, you can increase the limit locally, but from what I've seen, ppl have pretty much adapted to 140…

@rjeffries - I do think there's a little diff between 255 charac's and 150,000 page novel - don't you?

@mrqwerty I use SMS for < 1% of my posts. However, @whatleydude uses a N95 to run his whole life. I presume he isn't the only one.

@sportstwit Could be. I've been working with php5. I don't know what is required. You might try renaming .htaccess file.

@sportstwit hey, add this to the top of .htaccess AddType application/x-httpd-php5 .php5 .php this will help with the php5

@ashe this is what's already there "AddHandler application/x-httpd-php5 .php" same, no?

@sportstwit Turns out they are in the process of updating to Apache 2.2, MySql 5 and who knows what else. Still partly down.

@ahynes1 ok, re-installed on another domain. renamed .htaccess and i'm almost there but an error. see sportstwit.com/laconica

@sportstwit I got this error - my [config][db] settings from 'config.php' were not heeded. Try editing the same entries in lib/common.php.

@sportstwit Sorry - before you do that - double, triple and quadruple check your DB definition line with the mysql/user/db credentials

@sportstwit I used a standalone Pear DB PHP script to check my DSN was 100% correct - maybe look at http://is.gd/Pf9
