@cemb @simoncolumbus Jabber Inc never had an open source server to my knowledge. Their server is called XCP.

@metajack: I was going to ask Facebook guys why they didn't use XMPP to start (implementing it now) and your strophe JS library.

@rwandering That sounds like an excellent question. At BearHugCamp I got the since from Ari's comments that they aren't big fans.

@metajack RE FB backlash, I wasn't backlashing. Just mentioning that their UI changes may have had an effect on some apps e.g. Calliflower

@kshep I didn't mean to imply that you were, just stating my surprise at how much press its getting.

@metajack Saw an instance of that just now on GillmorGang when one of the Facebook folks made mention of the Cisco acq.

@metajack: Ari is more product focused, the guys on the GG today were infrastructure and they *are* doing XMPP.

@kshep And people are already asking similar questions in jdev. Oh well. At least the XMPP branding happened well before this.

@rwandering Are they building something like engineyard's XMPP stuff?

@metajack right. i just wanted to differ between jabber inc and ejabberd

@metajack I've always been guilty of using XMPP and Jabber as synonyms. That'll stop as of today. ;-)

@metajack: don't know. They said that they are extending chat and existing feeds to XMPP for arbitrary clients and other web sites.

@kshep yeah I keep treating xmpp and jabber as same thing as well. neither name is convincing friends to use xmpp instead of AIM

@kshep @metajack we have build a microblogging platform purely on XMPP/ejabberd. its up & running fast.

@vrillusions Throw gtalk into the XMPP/Jabber mix and it's even more confusing.

@metajack we're fighting branding fires with both fists today. It will get sorted out. Talking points: XMPP good. XCP is not open source.

@hildjj yeah, I've had to clarify that to a few people today in light of the Cisco purchase
