What PA does add: Another layer of buggy software, crashes, latency, and work. Yay, awesome. !Kubuntu !KDE
-
@markey it does more than that, for example autoconfiguring new devices such bluetooth audio, or usb (with alsa you have use an ugly hook)
-
@markey Also, it has a "not perfect" but better API than alsa for developers, at the very least it is documented :)
-
@afiestas: So then, why don't we improve (or replace) the API of #ALSA, and fix it up, instead of adding a layer on top? #pulseaudio
-
@markey That I can't answer properly since I'm not an audio expert, but seems that having a userspace sound daemon is the way to go
-
@afiestas BTW pulseaudio works perfect in my hardware and thanks to it I can enjoy my audio hardware (HDMI and Bluetooth devices).
-
@noobsaibot Surely not a "random rant". Neither a question. The issue has been there for years, the problem domain is well defined.
-
@markey contra! PA allows volume control on a per application basis + network streaming #pulseaudio !KDE
-
@salout Not sure if thats worth the extra layer. All my apps have volume control per app, and they don't use #pulseaudio
-
@salout: Contra! Network streaming can be done a million other ways, e.g. with UPnP, which was designed for this purpose. #pulseaudio !KDE

@markey i know you posted a similar dent some time ago. h ence my question.
-
@markey alles in allem stimme ich dir zu, wozu noch eine schicht und fehlerquelle einfügen, wenn sie überflüssig ist.
-
@markey on the contrary though I found PA works really well for me on Kubuntu. kinda prefer the setup to the pre-PA setup in lucid
