learning to use a !cli only !linux system, just for fun :) So far i like it, some issues i need to figure out but no big deal :)
-
@dis0 Which distribution are you using for that?
-
@mjjzf Debian sid
-
@dis0 A ver nice place for the CLI lifestyle. What were your issues?
-
@mjjzf Yes, it is :) I cant use framebuffer in screen (tty2 to watch pix with fbi is annoying) and need to find apps to handle docx & wifi
-
@mjjzf links2 doesnt really work well in framebuffer
-
@dis0 Did you try Elinks? I seem to remember better results than with Links2.
-
@mjjzf Yes it's the one I'm using most of the time, but i keep links2 when i want some kind of graphical browser... links2 -g
-
@dis0 Abiword has a command-line conversion system which does not require launching GUI - that will help you read Docx, at least.
-
@mjjzf Thanks I'll try to convert with Abiword, but sometime Ill just have to open X to view pictures and graphs in doc's i guess...
-
@dis0 But you can convert to pdf with it, and that can be viewed without X, right?
-
@mjjzf Oh yeah, thanks, didn't I could convert them from CLI with abiword, that's pretty cool ^ ^
-
@dis0 I think that is the easiest way to go. What do you do for writing documents, LaTeX?
-
@mjjzf Well I'm thinking about learning LaTex, I haven't tried it yet, and I didnt write any documents from cli yet.
-
@dis0 LaTeX is an extremely potent geek powertool. Look for the "Not so short introduction to LaTeX" - brilliant.
-
@mjjzf thanx, I'll take a look at it when I have some free time :)
