    Australia are destroying England here, why am I not surprised. We have about as much resilience as a wet paper bag #ashes

      @fabsh Gonna try running it today in basic VGA mode and see if that works. Then enable 3D drivers, if that breaks it, it must be the GPU

    • Fabian Scherschel Fabian Scherschel

      @dantheman Sounds like it... :(

      @fabsh Symptoms like lines on the screen, flickering display and strange characters also point to a fried GPU. They'll have to replace it

      @fabsh I just upgraded the Outlaws blog to WP 2.8.1, it all went smoothly :)

      @dantheman did you change sth in BIOS? Bus speed, PCI settings? Try with default settings.

      Saturday, 11-Jul-09 13:40:28 UTC
    • Jan Wildeboer Jan Wildeboer

      @dantheman to me it sounds like some overclocking result ;-)

      Saturday, 11-Jul-09 13:41:40 UTC
    • Dan Lynch Dan Lynch Jan Wildeboer

      @jwildeboer Nope, didn't change anything in the BIOS. It's on default settings. Some of these M1330 machines shipped with a faulty GPU

      @dantheman ah ok. I see

      @jwildeboer Dell have offered 1 year's warranty extension on the machines because of it. Thanks for the advice though, I appreciate it :)

      @jwildeboer No worries, I do like the one click upgrades in Wordpress. I use Drupal a lot and I wish it upgraded as easily (sigh)

      @dantheman I am thinking of starting a network of connected sites with elgg. I think it is the Next Big Thing. Sorta DIX Facebook.

      @jwildeboer I noticed your site says something about elgg. I'll have to try it on a testing server. Is it similar to NoseRub?

      Saturday, 11-Jul-09 14:19:40 UTC
    • Dan Lynch Dan Lynch Jan Wildeboer

      @jwildeboer http://noserub.com/

      @dantheman will check noserub. Is it GPL? Elgg is. I am testing it on livingopensource.com.

      Saturday, 11-Jul-09 14:20:50 UTC
    • Dan Lynch Dan Lynch Jan Wildeboer

      @jwildeboer Noserub is MIT licensed apparently, just checked. I thought it was GPL but it is open source at least

      @dantheman do you do backups of your wordpress files and database before the one-click updates?

      Saturday, 11-Jul-09 14:32:48 UTC
    • Dan Lynch Dan Lynch Ken Simeon

      @scriptmunkee I do daily backups of all my servers anyway. I do download a tarball of some backups before upgrades yeah. Pays to be safe

      @jwildeboer Elgg looks great and I prefer that it's GPL. Will have to try this, thanks for the tip :)

      @dantheman cool thing with elgg is that you can mesh several instances using their open standard.

      @dantheman noserub is MIT License.
