Fail: http://www.getgnulinux.org/ is now owned by #Ubuntu !GNU !Linux

@ubiquit why so ?
-
♻ @ubiquit: This is a horrible news!! (Fail: http://www.getgnulinux.org/ is now owned by #Ubuntu #GNU #Linux)
-
@ubiquit www.getgnulinux.org is NOT owned by Ubuntu. !GNU !Linux — It's just redirecting there for the time being.

@ubiquit Nobody had the time, resources, and interest to continue running the site. Olivier kept the domains to ward off squatters.
-
@trzewiczek doesn't seem that "horrible" to me. Canonical hasn't got crystal clear track record, but is being painted as the devil himself
-
@freezombie Hmm, it had pretty good documentation which didn't seem to require too much server load.
-
@freezombie right, "redirect" would be more precisely. But still, IMO strange decision.
-
@freezombie Please consider not-single-distro redirection. Maybe, http://gnu.org/distros/free-distros.html or some other. !gnu
-
@osamak but, as it's not owned by Canonical, if somebody came along wanting to restart the project, that may be possible.
-
@ubiquit Would be much better if it redirected to http://distrowatch.com :)
-
@trzewiczek yay for false dichotomies. it's not "good". but it's not "horrible", "terrifying", etc. we have grays between black and white.
-
@trzewiczek and I see more and more only "black" is used towards Canonical. that's simply unfair. and does not help anybody one bit.
-
@rysiek: There are greys - I agree 100%!! However, Canonical represents totalitarian way of thinking. It's black to say: Linux IS Ubuntu.
-
@trzewiczek and where does Canonical say Linux is Ubuntu? It has even been recently criticised for NOT saying Ubuntu is Linux. Come on! :)
-
@trzewiczek while I agree that some C's decisions could/should have been discussed with the community better, calling that "totalitarian" is
-
@trzewiczek far off. I mean - comparing Canonical to the Third Reich or USSR? seriously? do people even *think* what they say anymore?..
-
@trzewiczek I am all for constructive criticism (and C deserves a bunch), but such name-calling and ostracism leads nowhere, IMVHO.
-
@trzewiczek and don't take that personally please; I'm just a bit grumpy as another "horrible, terrible" C's action turned out just tactless
-
@rysiek: Totalitarian in a Google way [we'll cover all the world and let people not ot think too much], not USSR or Third Reich way.
-
@rysiek: Ubuntu is getting closer to it. "Don't make me think, just give me all I want working" - is it Linux way? Where is FAIF priority?!
-
@rysiek: And belive me - I don't like words like "horrible" or "totalitarian", but I see Google, iDevice and Ubuntu people around and
-
@rysiek: It's not about words. I see Google, iDevice, Ubuntu people around me, who want to get a ready product with no questions and daubts!
-
@rysiek: And they get what they want - there are companies to fullfil these needs. ALL of these needs - no matter the costs. It scares me!!
-
@trzewiczek "#googleitarian", I love it! yeah, I understand your point, and I also see much C's wrongs. but the community's response is far
-
@trzewiczek too aggressive, IMVHO. it would be much better if we tried to sit and talk, instead of attacking and calling names.
-
@trzewiczek I use Kubuntu for that ease of use. it's a good thing in and of itself. "the bad" are the closed parts - but there are not many.
-
@sebsebseb @ubiquit @mivael @osamak New post re GetGNULinux.org on www.gnulinuxmatters.org - may interest you.
