I am VERY happy with my 7" Galaxy Tab. Nice size, !android OS, 2 cameras, 32GB of flash (incl. SD), tons of apps. Now it needs !skype video

@stav pssst... skype is proprietary software... as I understand it there is non-proprietary VOIP

@stav can't think of a use for it that I wouldn't rather use either a smartphone or a laptop for. Apart from a fancy media centre controller

@laurelrusswurm I never use !skype for voice, only videoconferencing. Is there a FLOSS equivalent?

@rpcutts When a laptop/netbook is too big/bulky & smartphone screen is too teensy for aging eyes, 7" tab comes in very handy

@marjoleink Very impressive. But not a single !android videoconferencing app, unfortunately. Will you write one for me?

@laurelrusswurm There is. There's EKIGA, which adheres to SIP standards https://www.ekiga.net/

@mcg great - does that include video conferencing then, like @stav wants?

@marjoleink Just voice, as far as I know, no FLOSS equiv on Android.

@mcg and does it require that both parties have Adroid Gingerbread? or could the otehr party use a different client?

    • Matthew Gregg Matthew Gregg Marjolein Katsma

@marjoleink It's just SIP. You need a compatible SIP provider is all.

@mcg sorry, what's 'provider' in this context? and does it include video or not? I know very little about SIP

@marjoleink The server component, Gizmo5, Callcentric, or your own Asterisk install.
