    Honest question. How many !KDE people use Quicksand and prefer it?

      @skreech2 I had no idea about quicksand :P, I think the real question is, how many people use nepomuk and/or strigi ? :P !KDE

      @skreech2 I might have liked it, but I don't like that weird, out-of-place menu that pops-up on the right. :/

      @zuargo everyone using KDE 4?

      @djotaku I know about many people who have disabled them, both nepo. and stri. uses too much resources (ram and CPU)

      @skreech2: I use it and prefer it.

      @zuargo: I do, but very little.

      @zuargo Hopefully it continues to improve with each generation. In KDE 4.6 it never causes problems. Unlike 4.5. Also there's a slider.

      @djotaku yesterday, I had enabled them, the system was using, 2.04 GB of ram, (I have 4GB)

      @zuargo Not to invalidate your concerns - did you experience any slowdown or swapping because of that? 2GB doesn't matter if you're on net

      @djotaku In other words, I find our machines are over-provisioned for most daily tasks. Unless video editing or using Blender

      @djotaku you are right, I didn't have any slowdown related to ram but, also, the CPU increases their use, so the system becomes very slow...

      @djotaku at least for me...

      Thursday, 14-Apr-11 20:06:41 UTC
    • Gatoso Kot Gatoso Kot Eric Mesa

      @djotaku I think this increase of CPU use was due to that strigi was indexing all files in the hard disk

    • Eric Mesa Eric Mesa Gatoso Kot

      @zuargo yeah, and if that's written well (Don't know whether it is or not) it should take << resources as there are less files new to it

    • Gatoso Kot Gatoso Kot Eric Mesa

      @djotaku perhaps. I will try, again, soon, but when I buy more ram memory :P

      Thursday, 14-Apr-11 20:18:17 UTC

      @zuargo Haha. I have 6 GB and the cpu/disk still thrash for a while on first boot - probably nepomuk. It calms as soon as I start real work

      @zuargo Working flawlessly here, no R.A.M and/or cpu abuses (33k files in index) ... but, virtuoso is always eating 10% of CPU use it or not

      @zuargo I would suspect that most in !KDE use nepomuk and strigi. They hopefully don't realise they do though. Sort of like KIO.

      @skreech2 Which release did it start working in? Most people are not on master ;)

      @thomaszander Quicksand has been basically working since it came out. I'm not sure it meets the goals of the project but certainly usable

      @vertexsymphony the index, made for my system, by Nepomuk has 5,3 GB :P. Also, first time I hear about virtuoso

      @skreech2 @bulldog98 I mean SG and NK are used, by a user, to search or find something in the hard disk, or am I wrong?

      @zuargo: busco el contenido de un archivo usando QuickSand.
