Monday, 29-Sep-08 22:02:38 UTC from web- Evan Prodromou likes this.
-
@fabsh: dude, I cannot subscribe there because the remote login throws an error, same with openid
-
@fabsh Looks like OpenID log in is still broken.
-
@fabsh: check the logs, you should see lots of nifty errors
-
@nervousfinn Thanks, I'm really glad you enjoyed it. We tried to make it not too long but still in depth. He was a good guest
-
@nervousfinn Thanks, dude! Glad you liked it! :)
-
@fabsh yeah dan said it sounds like a list of call girls ;)
-
@binarylife It does to me, I don't understand their naming scheme, it seems tacky to me :S
-
@binarylife LOL. Exactly! :D
-
@dantheman I totally agree!
-
@fabsh: good reminder to buy more. If you love coffee and want to buy fresh, this guy roasts to order. http://www.hasbean.co.uk
-
@fabsh there's a write up for binary life coming soon
-
@binarylife Nice. Can't wait to read it! :)
-
@binarylife "Well, let me tell you..... Open Source is Crappppppppppppp!!!" :D
-
@fabsh slightly more sophisticated than that
-
@binarylife Wow very cool and I'm always proud ;)
-
@dantheman Dan Lynch.... Dan Lynch.... Please report to GTalk! ;)
-
@fabsh I'm on gtalk already :P
-
@fabsh Well, he flips it on all the time cuz he sees mine) but I turn it off. Honestly, I didn't check.
-
@heathenx Switch from Compiz back to Metacity and it should go away.
-
@fabsh Thanks for the tip. I'll have some time to work on it tonight.
-
@heathenx May also want to look at the video options within WoW as well. Can always lower some special graphics options too...
-
@fabsh but you use Free Web applications. You're using one right now!
-
@evan Yes. But not for anything mission-critical. I only use it if I'm OK with it failing some of the time.
-
@fabsh The problem is not the possible fail, the problem is you being locked out of using your own data in any way you want
-
@evan I don't mean to offend anyone. I think web applications are really important. You just have to know the limits.
-
@fabsh - at work (on XP), Outlook fails regularly. Gmail does not. I don't think cloud computing fails. You and Dvorak. Sheesh. ;)
-
@evan And for me, "the cloud" means using them instead desktop apps for the same purpose. As of right now, that doesn't work.
-
@rfquerin Can you remember when GMail was off for a day? I was happy my critical work mail wasn't dependant on that!
-
@rfquerin If your desktop app breaks, you use another machine. If the cloud breaks, you're frakked.
-
@fabsh - stable web apps are anything but FAIL imo.
-
@rfquerin I like he calendar/terminal text trick that you did in ep072. I wasn't aware that one could bring text into Inkscape like that. :)
-
@fabsh - the point for me is that Gmail is so much better than something like Outlook that the odd minor fail is a price I'll gladly pay.
-
@heathenx - pity is that I don't think there is an equivalent to that on XP. But on the upside maybe they'll look again at Linux. :)
-
@tante aber das fehlen des dienstes ist nicht nur möglich sonst realität, dazu noch das fehlen der verbindung etc.
-
@tante ich stimme da - erstmals - auch völlig mit rms überein :D
-
@rfquerin My point is that you are at the total mercy of the application provider. There are times when a single fail can be very bad...
-
@oliverh Du und RMS auf einer Linie? Wie konnte das passieren ;)
-
@fabsh -you're right on that point. But the whole thing (pc and all) is a house of cards no? ;) Btw, I was without the net for 3 wks like u.
-
@tante ich stimme mit vielem überein, hat aber auch seine grenze und ich scheue mich auch nicht ihm mails zu schreiben :D
-
@rfquerin I sympathise. :) My point is just that with computers you can have precautions (like having a backup machine).
-
@fabsh - http://bit.ly/1s9pK5 I know how reliant I am on the net. But without it, a lot of desktop apps are useless (or pointless) too.
-
@fabsh - without it, how the hell would I get my Outlaws fix??!! :)
-
@rfquerin Hehe... I am not saying the net is a fail. I'm saying the notion of real cloud computing is.
-
@binarylife well, it's no gentoo, but it's pretty!
-
@evan did CBC Spark get in touch with you?
-
@fabsh Holy-cow! How many uniques?
-
@mjohnson 6,588 "visits" according to webalizer.
-
@mjohnson I dunno if that includes all the RSS pings for the podcast feeds though...
-
@fabsh Freedom hater! :)
-
@heathenx What's new?
-
@fabsh: Uh, do you really want the factory girls to unsnap the jeans???
-
@fabsh No. It's a very simple set up for a 10 year old kid. :)
-
@heathenx Did you check Top? What process is using all the cpu?
-
@nernie Yes. The WoW process is what is taking all of the cpu.
-
@nernie I don't remember but I think it was at 300-400mb.
-
@heathenx cripes, you even tried lowering the video settings? Intriguing...
-
@nernie I wonder if it's just not my processor. It's a Via afterall. Perhaps other gOS PC people have the same problem.
-
@fabsh: are you doing a live simulcast? any way to tune in?
-
@fabsh You should edit together all your ramblings every couple weeks and put out a new podcast
-
@fabsh Oh ya, none of this was my idea. I'm very bitter. But proud that Congressman Mike Michaud of Maine voted against.
-
@mjohnson Oh, cool. Maine seems to be a cool state. Steven King goes on about it in the Dark Tower. I'd love to visit some day...
-
@fabsh Maine is very cool! I'd love to show you around!
-
@mjohnson Shiny. I'm gonna take you up on that some day!
-
@fabsh Ace!
-
@fabsh I dunno. Would they bother?
-
@evan I hope note. I think it's a great idea. Joss would probably think that as well...
-
@evan Thanks for letting me know about it. :-)
-
@fabsh |evan The idea is neat but I couldn't bear the thought of some fat, hairy guy talking as Inara ;)
-
@evan could it be that jabber.org has changed something so that the xmpp daemon cant connect there anymore, it worked for me until yesterday
-
@chaz6 thank for the info, can I set that in the config.php
-
@chaz6 thanks, I set encryption to true and now it works again
-
@evan: Any ideas for 'verse related domains that end on .ca? :)
-
@evan, you couldn't stuff all the characters into one domain, unless it was something relatively neutral like cantstopthesignal.ca.
-
@evan much better to set up several domains that peer, for Blue Sun, for each planet, for Niska's station, for the military, etc.
-
@webmaven Wow. OK, that's really a good way to do it.
-
@evan or maybe set up a neutral domain, and use subdomains for groups.
-
@evan P.S. I'm not volunteering, BTW. ;-)
-
@evan BTW there is probably money to be made in setting up faux social networks as PR for movies and TV.
-
@webmaven I think it'd be fun for fanfic folks, too
-
@fabsh whats the beer of the week or uh...day?
-
@fabsh Good luck with the editing, what was the model number of those USB soundcards you have BTW? :)
-
@dantheman Oh sorry.... Wait a sec, gotta climb under my desk...
-
@dantheman Behringer UCA202 (they go for €29 each over here) → http://www.behringer.com/UCA202/?lang=ENG
-
@fabsh Great thanks I'll take a look, I was looking at something like the Edirol UA25 with preamps but I think budget will rule that out :D
-
@fabsh Already got myself an XLR to phono cable to try it out, I'll let you know how I get on, thanks again :)
-
@dantheman: Tony has some XLR to USB devices which are really very cool!
-
@popey Interesting, got any ideas of make/model? Obviously they work with ALSA then? I'm setting up for mobile recording...
-
@popey ... studio stuff too heavy to lug around, no pun intended :P
-
@dantheman: @tonytiger will know :)
-
@dantheman: I use my iriver for mobile recording, but we have been known to use a laptop, the xlr-usb works with ubuntu out of the box..
-
@popey Thanks, I'll see if I can catch up with him. I'm hoping to make it to the Linux Expo in a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed :)
-
@dantheman It's @tonywhitmore, BTW. :)
-
@popey Great thanks @fab I really want one of these but I don't think I can afford it right now - http://tinyurl.com/4juasu
-
@fabsh Ahh I was looking and couldn't find tonytiger :D I think I'm already subbed to Tony.. yeah I am he keeps posting about running hehe
-
@dantheman Wow. That Zoom looks great, even more costly than my Marantz, though....
-
@fabsh: That's what we have used to do recordings, it's a very nice device..
-
@fabsh How much was the Marantz? What model number is it? I'm thinking I could use something for interviews, music and mobile recording
-
@dantheman: the UCA 202 is part of this podcast kit I was going to buy, but bought a headset instead http://tinyurl.com/4ujoln
-
@popey It looks sweet and I could use it for music production purposes as well but I'm not sure I have enough hubcaps at the moment :D
-
@penguinfandan Thanks, I used to have a portable mixer but I don't really need one these days. The UA202 is ALSA certified so that's good
-
@dantheman Marantz PMD620. Got it for about €200, but that was a special sale.
-
@fabsh Looking at it now thanks, seems it's not much cheaper than the Zoom in most places but I'll keep hunting :)
-
@fabsh Thanks dude much appreciated, I could use a better USB sound device for this laptop anyway. I still have my eye on the Zoom hehe ;)
-
@fabsh Keep a close eye on your hubcaps, that's all I'm saying :P
-
@dantheman ROFL! I will. And I'm not driving to Liverpool! ;)
-
@fabsh sooooo retro!
-
@fabsh - yeah and it's a constant source of confusion. If I could change it I would
-
@fabsh - that's why I try to refer to the show as this week in tech and the network as twit
-
@leolaporte OK. Fair point. I will keep that in mind. I think TWiT is a very strong brand for it though. Focuses attention.
-
@leolaporte just did :)
-
@leolaporte yea, this little adventure is causing me to take notes and will be seeing how I can help improve things for @evan and others
-
@leolaporte - I appreciate the push....;)
-
@leolaporte: there is something wrong with your setup -- if you have package sendmail, you have /usr/bin/newaliases
-
@leolaporte are you sure have sendmail like sendmail, or something else? What does rpm -q sendmail says
-
@leolaporte: Have you been able to cross subscribe to army.twit.tv?
-
@leolaporte sendmail-8.13.8-2.el5 and sendmail -bi just works; what does rpm -V sendmail give?
-
@leolaporte SELinux? What does /usr/sbin/getenforce give?
-
@leolaporte Otherwise I went through the bugzilla and nothing like "sendmail -bi doesn't work at all". Would you mind to file a bug, please?
-
@fabsh The window decoration is an orangey-brown. I don't understand why so many people dislike it though (was looking at that dust theme).
-
@lucy There is no brown there. The window borders have been pretty much as orange as you can get for a while....
-
@fabsh Looks fairly brown to me ;) But it's the current trend towards really dark themes that I don't like.
-
Listening to WW 76, @leolaporte's ignorance makes me sad. Android is *based* on Linux! The 5th Element song is a classic by Maria Callas!!
-
@fabsh My monitors are great, perhaps it's yours? ;)
-
@lucy No. I measured it using the tools in Lightroom. It's pretty close to the mark.
-
@fabsh Ah, fair enough then. I've never done any calibration. Do you know of any Linux equivalents?
-
@lucy I duno, really. Was running it in a VM as well, so I dunno how correct it was either. It was more meant as a joke.
-
@lucy My eyes are probably crap anyway.... I just think it's orange. The wallpaper, now *that* is brown! :)
-
@fabsh Fair enough :)
-
@fabsh Thanks!
-
@fabsh lol lay off @popey he's just getting warmed up I'm sure hehehe ;) @tonywhitmore Break a leg, can't wait to hear it
-
@fabsh: Maybe, but that's not the problem right now. :)
-
@tonywhitmore LOL! ;)
-
@leolaporte it seems that updates from http://bleeper.de do not arrive at army canteen anymore since your server crashed
-
@leolaporte what was wrong with that sendmail?
-
@fabsh: good weird... certainly beats dpkg :)
-
@kenvandine Better than aptitude?
-
@kenvandine That's great you're porting Conary to Ubuntu.We'll talk at OLF this weekend. FYI, we doing a live show from there.
-
@fabsh On Mono:http://is.gd/3IgN
-
@fabsh: ubuntu is now available as a basis for appliances on rbuilder, i am building a hardy based appliance now
-
@fabsh: well aptitude is just a front end, i am talking about creating packages
-
@bleeper TWiT Army started over - you'll have to create a new account. No more re-starts, though. I promise.
-
@leolaporte is IM down on Twit Army, or is it just for me?
-
@leolaporte: omb is working, since this is my identi.ca account
-
@microft The Jabberqueue daemon had died. Restarted. Thanks!
-
@leolaporte I've been pondering that since last night. I'm still baffled. I'll say this: it doesn't make him look very courageous.
-
@fabsh: what is to say dann does not have two accounts now?
-
@fabsh I wasn't getting all your posts. Yes, it's fixed now. A case == 24 beers
-
@kshep my mom is a powerseller too. she agrees.
-
@kshep my mom reports on schedule C, so yes to SE tax, IT. Health insurance is, of course, optional. Sales Tax depends on state, yes?
-
@karoli Yep .5 pt will help. Still, the IMF just warned the UK to expect a full year or recession (http://is.gd/3IMX ) & why will we not?
-
@karoli I'm not accusing anybody of anything (particularly your mother ;-), just curious in general.
-
@kshep I knew you weren't accusing her...she's just the only ebay seller i know that makes much.
-
@gwfrink3 Love those pastures! Especially the greener ones! 'Specially with them yummy cows and tasty sheep :(
-
@fabsh no, "2001: A Space Odyssey" soundtrack.
-
@bleeper ich bin von einem microblog.at-mitglied connected worden. das ist doch auch cross-browser, oder?
-
@leolaporte sorry misunderstanding. More precise: http://bleeper.de/bleeper subscribed to you on T.Army and sees your updates locally :-) …
-
@leolaporte … but sending a @-msg to you from bleeper.de does not show-up in your replies on TWiT Army :-(
-
@leolaporte maybe most carriers in the US support SMS-via-email, but most in Europe don't
-
@leolaporte Is there a way to cross-post between identi.ca and army.twit?
-
@fabsh Doesn't look likely sorry, feel queesy. I'll check in later and let you know how I'm doing. I did add stuff to the wiki though :)
-
@fabsh Ha! I guess he's "grunge" by association. :)
-
@dantheman I saw that. No worries. I'll be at the parent's over the weekend (from Sat) on. Just tell me when you'd prefer. No haste. :)
-
@heathenx Looks like it. Is Neil Young in there?
-
@fabsh Thanks, appreciated :)
-
@fabsh Not yet but I expect him to pop up at some point.
-
@heathenx: my favorite is Brushfire fairytales, I think that was his first album. There are some legal free live stuff you can torrent. good
-
@fabsh Last time I went snowboarding in Wisconsin, I stayed at this guys house. Had vintage guitars and could play any Neil Young song.
-
@fabsh He was quite an excellent musician and obviously a big fan of Neil Young.
-
@heathenx Cool! :)
-
@fabsh hey mate, @alexharrington has been trying to talk to you on Identi.ca but no reply, guess you need to sub him on LO.net is poss ;)
-
@fabsh No problem, seems like a limitation of cross site messaging. You had no way of knowing he was talking to you, not your fault :)
-
@dantheman aha! good to know Im not alone, been trying to find the reason why this dont work anymore. It did earlier..
-
@dantheman OK, I get it. :)
-
@fabsh I was wondering how you're posting to Twitter as from Laconica?
-
@leolaporte Eee PC sized MacBooks?
-
@raster For realz? AWESOME.
-
@fabsh: I got my drobo and droboshare through amazon.co.uk .. tempted to get another as I have 4 'spare' SATA disks
-
@popey: It's official. You make too much money.
-
@popey Send them to me! :)
-
@leolaporte what do you use to post to Twitter/Laconi.ca? I've heard you mention the tool, but my memory is poor. :-)
-
@leolaporte that period at the end of your last message is fracking up the URL
-
@leolaporte audible says: "We're sorry, but the page you requested was not found."
-
@leolaporte were you able to download the Mac version of OpenOffice?
-
@fabsh Pumpkin soup is great. The gas later, not so great.
-
@leolaporte is covering the Apple laptop annoncement wearing a linux T-shirt... funny :)
-
@fabsh You want one?
-
@edythemighty Hell no! I take two Dells and an EeePC for the price! Thank you.
-
@fabsh Just ran some numbers...equally specd XPS runs me about $1394....
-
@edythemighty I don't believe the Dell would be more expensive. No way.
-
@fabsh Oh, I forgot to say that that's still $500 cheaper than the MBP ;-)
-
@edythemighty I mean, my XPS was more powerful and had more storage nearly a year ago. And it cost less.
-
@fabsh but your XPS didn't come with shiny silver chains!
-
@leolaporte Nice micbrake.
-
checking out the FStream IPhone App and listening to @leolaporte twit.am/listen stream .... it just keeps getting better and better
-
Sleeping. Alarm set for 06:30. @fabsh, I have an alarm clock (2 actually), the problem is I turn it off in my sleep. I had a 3rd that broke.
-
@bkuhn Wow! What a skill... I can see the problem with that, though. :)
-
@fabsh Yeah no worries, I'm sorting through a mountain of email anyway. Gonna take a while :)
-
@dantheman Argh! Hours setting up a complex array of bridge scripts to get #VirtualBox networked how I wanted and they've made it easy now?
-
@fabsh Good to hear. I've been waiting, very impatiently at that, to hear it. Something good to listen to on the way to and from work
-
@fabsh:
-
@fabsh how much XP do you get for adjusting a firewall policy to allow traffic through it? Also, at how many XP do you level up? :)
-
@fabsh: you have inspired me to put a paypal link on my site:P
-
@fabsh 50 euros! Impressive donation there, put it to good use.
-
@fabsh B&W LO dreams for you?
-
@fabsh All down hill from there!
-
@mattharwood Exactly! :)
-
@fabsh Communitising the community with communitising tools built by the community!
-
@edythemighty Exactly! :)
-
@fabsh We can agree to disagree. I have socialists in my family that I love dearly. I just want this election to be over and move on.
-
@evan Right. Thanks, mate! :)
-
Why am I having problems adding other laconica servers to identica? I can't add @fabsh, for example
-
@jontheniceguy Amazing work on the SMS Laconica bridge, great stuff. I hope we can get it working with LO.net but I leave the work to Fab ;)
-
@fabsh: hmmmm...you mean Xinerama, do you. I'll have to look into that
-
@fabsh as long as Nanci Pelosi is in office not much is going to change...
-
@fabsh i want one!!
-
@fabsh: Oh yeah!
-
@fabsh: Get a room you two! ;)
-
@tonywhitmore LOL. BTW, sorry I couldn't be there for your OpenWeek thing. I am too madly busy ATM. :(
-
@fabsh: They're dreadlocks!? I just thought you were dressing up as a tramp for Halloween!
-
@popey LOL. Says The King Reborn himself. LOL! Love ya, mate! :)
-
@fabsh: Mwah!
-
@popey Is that a word? Taking notes here.... :D
-
@fabsh I scored 75 :D I feel so smart! :D
-
@edythemighty Go to hell! :D
-
@fabsh: how much did you get? I got 60, "Headline Skimmer"
-
@fabsh I scored 60, "Headline Skimmer". How much did you score?
-
@dpkgregor I got 45 and most of that was down to luck guessing.
-
@fabsh Get crackin! ;-D
-
@fabsh And I haz updated IRC. Damn I'm fast!
-
@fabsh Bah! He *carries* the entire movies, damn it! ;-)
-
@edythemighty Yep, no Q.
-
@fabsh I know that! if you read what I posted you'd know I know. i just want you back on jaiku ;-)
-
@edythemighty Jaiku is dead to me.
-
@fabsh but we love you <3
-
@edythemighty Did you know the MI-6 is using fucking LCARS? Big ass table my arse! :D
-
@fabsh Star Trek LCARS?
-
@fabsh: ahh, the international "State the obvious" day!
-
@fabsh: Nah, the developers are rubbish ;)
-
@tonywhitmore Whaaaaaat? Who *are* the developers? @popey?
-
@fabsh: nah @Daviey
-
@tonywhitmore Ah, that explains a lot! ;)
-
@fabsh, @dantheman says you wanna make Django application for #podcast 'ing? http://ur1.ca/ljp FAILs and I've already begun some useful code
-
@bkuhn I have a lot of ideas and a little bit of code written. Just getting into Django to be honest.
-
@bkuhn I will contact you once I have some time. I basically want to make the way I publish the podcast now easy. With show notes and all.
-
@bkuhn Facebook and MySpace have many different features than livejournal/etc. 140 characters isn't enough to enumerate them, though.
-
@bkuhn OK. I will write you an email over the weekend. Or even better, what IRC channel do you hang out in most?
-
@fabsh - my previous comment was too harsh. Sorry. Really bugs me when people spew ignorant propaganda to sound politically smart. Meh.
-
@fabsh, I'm on freenode. /whois me there; you'll see my incredibly too large list of autojoin chans, and we could always make a new one. :)
-
@fabsh, I've shades and curtains too. But, I often wake up on weekends close to time I do during week. Makes weekly wakeup easier, anyway.
-
@fabsh, I got caught up in this #pokersource thing and didn't get a chance to make the Trac instance for #podjango . Will do it tomorrow!
-
@fabsh, I have set up the podjango project! http://ur1.ca/nul I need exchange various auth-related things with you and you'll be set up!
-
@bkuhn Thanks, dude! :D
-
@bkuhn What do you need? :)
-
@fabsh: Thanks man =] it's taken about 4 years, 2 in 'fro, 2 in locks. How about you?
-
#podjango is launched! http://ur1.ca/nul It's code dump treating Internet like a big truck, not a series of tubes. @fabsh will hack, though!
-
@bkuhn I am trying.... :)
-
@fabsh nite
-
@fabsh sleep well
-
@bazzawill thanks, mate!
-
@fabsh G'night!
-
@fabsh , cruel. Play.com are taking their sweet time shipping mine. I'm impatient.
-
@fabsh , it is in the bundle, along with gta4 , 300 on blueray and bluetooth remote control , all for £299. :D
-
@fabsh , hope so.
-
@fabsh: You're right. I may have been enticed over to the Dark Side at some point. Just can't work out when. I blame Gears of War!!
-
@fabsh: it was awesome. I really liked the male revue which was followed by the leather chaps parade Wish you were there, sending pictures
-
@rfquerin You'll be surprised. We included your well-versed wishes.... ;)
-
@fabsh: Great stuff, I'll have something to listen to on the way to @tonywhitmore house to record @uupc :)
-
@fabsh, I thought it was funny. No problems. I don't think it's a zero-sum game; people will listen to both or neither, I think. :)
-
@bkuhn My N95 can't get the new #slfc episode. Error 404. Feed points to: http://ur1.ca/tbx
-
@popey Don't steal our content! ;)
-
@bkuhn They should listen to both! As I say in the latest episode, we suck at law. ;)
-
@fabsh: Moi!? Never!
-
@alexharrington, thanks for the bug report. I have fixed it. Somehow, I typed a stray character into the middle of the string in the db...
-
@bkuhn Glad to be of service. I'll get it downloaded once #linuxoutlaws has finished. Cheers!
-
@fabsh Gawd! I used to love NT back in the day. Was so fast.
-
@heathenx - we bought a parallel card for a new machine but apparently these don't act as "onboard" parallel cards of yore.:(
-
@popey - I simply told them I was going to purchase a competitor's product. :)
-
@popey - structural engineering software is among the most proprietary crap around. :(
-
@fabsh: I'll sign a letter for you letting wikipedia know you exist ;)
-
and without wasting a moment, brave @fabsh changed the horrible blue color scheme
-
@fabsh, did I diss a linguist? What? I didn't realize I did. #Larry_Wall was on my thesis committee, man, I *love* linguists!
-
@bkuhn Well, you dissed "English majors" which means linguists to me. Don't worry, I was kidding. ;)
-
@fabsh, ah,very different thing,English majors and linguists! Anyway, I just pointed out they did very little work when I was in college. ;)
-
@bkuhn Well, they are basically linguists in training, right? And as for the work, I guess I am studying the EU equivalent... ;)
-
@fabsh we English majors are more like philosophers in training, literary criticism and all. US english majors are more lit, less english
-
@fabsh: Thanks to twitter! @ambermac asked people to suggest podcasts she might not have seen, so I did :)
-
@fabsh, Ah, I see the confusion. English major in USA usually means they study English literature. Linguist is usually a separate field.
-
@bkuhn Ah! It's the same here. I study both. And I love English/American literature.
-
@dantheman - what about Audacity's "Change Tempo" effect? :) Although I'm not sure it's in the current version in the Ubuntu repos.
-
@dantheman - you could just crank up that part of the podcast to 200 words per minute or something. :P
-
@rfquerin Chipmonks emails you mean? "and now here's our extra fast email section" lol
-
@dantheman Good choice of music btw.
-
@dantheman - no.. tempo will change the speed WITHOUT changing the pitch. That's the trick.
-
@lucy LOL, I think you did. :)
-
@dantheman - I've used it from time to time on podcasts and you'd be surprised how it can help make things more efficient sometimes.
-
@fabsh Cool!
-
@rfquerin Interesting that it can change tempo without affecting pitch, haven't really used it yet, I need to have a play I think :)
-
@lucy Thanks, it was suggested by those 2 emailers so I can't take all the credit. Nice music though, you can get the full album on Jamendo
-
@dantheman Actually I meant the Iron Maiden you were listening to, although the show music was good too ;)
-
@lucy Oh right well I'll take credit for the Maiden thanks, I used to be a big metal head but I love all music really :)
-
@dantheman - be wary of the Audacity version though. I believe the one in the Hardy repos removed a couple of effects including tempo. :(
-
@fabsh, and are you lazy? :) The English literature majors in the USA are lazy. Of course, so was my favorite linguist, #Larry_Wall :)
-
@rfquerin Will do thanks, I always run 1.3.5 anyway. I tried 1.3.6 but found the new effects layout didn't suit me :(
-
@bkuhn Apparently not enough or I would have more time for podcasting and coding stuff.
-
@bkuhn: This here English lit & Philosophy major is pretty dang lazy.
-
@fabsh: Despite what some in the Linux community say about Leo et al, they're doing good work IMO. Can't hurt to ask :)
-
@fabsh: Have you signed (and for that matter _read_) the Ubuntu Code of Conduct? :)
-
@popey I have both read and signed it but it was ages ago, does swearing on a podcast occasionally put me in breach of it?
-
@fabsh: Change the name to Ubuntu Outlaws then. I mean, really, are there any other distros left? </flame>
-
@popey Yes there are. I'm about to move to crunchbang for example. There's also Debian, puppy, slax... All excellent.
-
@popey We spent most of the last show talking about Fedora and we talk a lot about all distros, Ubuntu Outlaws would be false advertising
-
@dantheman I'm not flaming. I'm just asking a question. LugRadio had lots of people complaining as well. I don't get it.
-
@popey I'm a big fan of your show and the work all of you guys do with Ubuntu, I've said it many times and will continue to ;)
-
@fabsh: I have no problem with the swearing on your show at all, I just cant listen to it with a 5 year old daughter & 2 year old son about
-
@oddbloke: Debian? What a bunch of freeriders! Regardless of what they claim, they're not contributing most of their changes back to Ubuntu!
-
@popey I don't get that either, but then I have no kids. Fair enough. I don't think thats the right setting for it anyway... ;)
-
@fabsh - They're just words. Some are funny. Some are offensive. But they're just words. And the standards change all the time.
-
@fabsh - and many times the funny ones are also offensive :)
-
@popey - I have a 6 year old daughter, but 99.9% of my podcast listening is done in the car when I'm without passengers anyway.
-
@rfquerin Exactly! :)
-
@popey: I am not attacking your format. I love your show. Just pointing out that I don't get those listener comments.
-
@popey: Luckily we don't get many of them....
-
@fabsh: Sure dude, I never took it as an attack :)
-
@popey Good! :D
-
@fabsh - it's amazing how much the standards change. Early evening TV these days is like the stuff on after midnight when I was a kid! :)
-
@fabsh - standards progress (IMO). People and society adapts.
-
@popey did you see that wallpaper I sent you guys?
-
@rfquerin: Yes, and it's awesome - not got to my mail to reply yet..
