SO. How do I tell my !linux !ubuntu (10.04) to NOT go into lock mode when in fullscreen mode of movies and whatnot?

@maloki: Sounds like you need Caffeine! http://is.gd/wVtCCp
-
@maloki: That would be CAFFIENE - keep's your linux desktop awake.
-
@maloki: Take a look at your screensaver manager, it should control this :)
-
@amanjpro couldn't find it there :/ nothing that says anything about fullscreen at least
-
@maloki gnome-screensaver-command --inhibit
-
@wwwwolf but that sounds like it will effect more than JUST when there's a fullscreen thing?
-
@maloki That will prevent the screensaver from kicking in while the command is running. Just hit ctrl+c when you're done.
-
@maloki The *proper* way of doing this is telling the video player to do its darnest to prevent SS. This is usually implemented somehow.
-
@maloki (The way it usually works is that the player app sends fake user input to X11 to prevent the SS from running)
-
@wwwwolf ahh, cool!
-
@maloki what player are you using? vlc comes with that feature by default.
-
@darwinsurvivor I noticed that. think I just wanted it in general, like when I view some random video streams in the browser as well :(
-
@maloki screensaver/power management?
-
@csmart works only to some extent, but I don't seem to have the proper settings there
-
@maloki The ss has no way of knowing when or if you're "fullscreen". It can just monitor user input, or hear if an app specifically says no.
-
@wwwwolf well I don't care !! :P That's how I want it to work! ;)
-
@maloki Ahh.. the wonders of GNOME. Of course in !KDE you can tweak just about anything you want ;-)
-
@csmart probably ;) I'll get there, when I have a work computer. I'll start trying some other stuff
-
@maloki X11 is broken as designed! Too many ways to implement FS mode! Try Windows 98! =)
-
@wwwwolf noooo! : )
-
@maloki That's what virtual machines are for! :-)
-
@vk7hse but I don't want to have to do that all the time
