@bkuhn I'm getting a "The requested URL /bkuhn/blog/2011/05/14/germany.html was not found on this server." on that link
-
@bkuhn must have been my evil connection, now it does work
-
@bkuhn Love the "WARNING: name dropping follows!", otherwise it would have been total bragging of course :-)
-
@bkuhn I totally envy you :-) must say that thanks to your coverage and the latest !faif I really see Samba in a different light now
-
@jel, yeah, my big "ask" to !Conservancy's board of directors when I was hired full time was a travel budget so I could go to conferences.
-
@bkuhn somehow you didn't strike me as the "lease car"-type, but flying around to conferences as part of your job sounds great!
-
@jel, I'm not sure what you mean by "lease car" reference. Can you explain further? (I do worry re: carbon footprint of my many flights,BTW)
-
@bkuhn maybe that's more of a Dutch thing, but here when you get a 'good' contract, a semi-permanent rental car is almost always included
-
@bkuhn I think there are organizations that let you compensate your flights by planting a bunch of trees for you
-
@jel, ah, I see. Well,my trips to conferences to speak on !Conservancy is clearly useful toward Conservancy's mission. Perk is side-effect.
-
@jel, purchasing carbon offsets seems "too little, too late" to me. OTOH, fact that I don't use a car regularly is eaten up by my flights.
-
@bkuhn of course. I think it's admirable that you're trying to meet members from all conservancy projects irl
-
@bkuhn I agree, however there is an interesting question there, which of your beliefs get top-priority? something I ask myself all the time
-
@jel, well, as it stands now, according to "carbon footprint calculators" I find online, I'm still slightly better than average USA citizen.
-
@jel, actually, I may be even better than that, as I don't commute on the subway anymore; I only use the subway once every few weeks now.
