@fontana,I think you're part of the community;I still encourage you to send some doc/code patches to a project,or volunteer administratively
about a year ago from web-
Just finalized @fontana's "Contributor Agreements Considered Harmful" talk for !OSCON http://edd.me/k5AA5F
-
@fontana, I won't endorse that talk unless you call it "Where's Your #OpenByRule Now, See?!?". Also, @webmink deserves a rebuttal to it.
-
@fontana Obviously.
-
@fontana, I hit send on my dent adding ", See" as yours appeared: !disturbing. OTOH,it's better than #troll'ing, but means I should sleep now
-
@fontana,remember,undergrad,I was in honors program at a liberal arts school! They make one read that stuff (OTOH, #DasKapital not required)
-
@fontana,IMO it's more impressive I've read Rhinocéros, but when I mentioned it earlier,no one was impressed. I did read it in English, though
-
@fontana, meanwhile, are you impressed at all I've read entire Canterbury Tales, Paradise Lost, Kassandra, Beowulf,The Inferno & Njáls Saga?
-
Spoiler alert, BTW: Njáls Saga is boring as hell, and if you don't aren't into blood and gore parts, there's absolutely no pay-off.
-
@bkuhn Untrue: I favoured the dent so as to follow it up. I'd not heard of it (not good on drama) but if that conversation reminded ....
-
@vanden,thanks, but I feel embarrassed I went fishing for compliments & got one. I just want my liberal arts education to turn out useful.☺
-
@bkuhn 1) Well, my evil plan came to fruition. 2) If you figure out a way, let me know. I've a PhD in Philosophy to justify :-(
-
@fontana,I read all in translation, but my Canterbury Tales was side-by-side;Had it for years& I'd read Middle English out loud to help sleep

@bkuhn No, but I do remember cringing over your account when you brought Kant up in your oggcast (You, however, would giggle at my code :-)
-
@fontana That's brilliant. Historical legal systems FTW.
-
@vanden, it's really one line in #Kant that changed my life: "Take ever action, as if, by acting, the action is willed into universal law".

@bkuhn ROFL! :D
-
@bkuhn I was guessing you were a fan of the Kategorische Imperativ.
-
@bkuhn I had to read that several times before I got it. I blame the #lackofcoffee this morning.
-
@fabsh, I do indeed believe in Kategorische Imperativ. I believe that software freedom is one, for example. :)
-
@fontana,I don't recall anything free-sw-ish from Njáls Saga. What I remember the most is a *lot* of murder &too many names to keep track of
Rich Barrett-Small likes this. -
@fontana, in fact, E_TOO_MANY_CHARACTERS is my Achilles' heel in reading. It's why I never made it all the way through Cien años de soledad.
-
@fontana Internet is dead too, Dr. Kervokian just died, Osama died too, everyone's dying these days...
-
@fontana,it's !disturbing you have to qualify that as "*within*" !Free sw community. We did,as it turned out, have a murder in our midst. :-/
-
@fontana I actually tried to nibble in Das Kapital, but I fall asleep pretty soon :(
-
@bkuhn I understand you completely ... now reading (otherwise quite nice) detective stories of Sister Fidelma and all those Irish names ...
-
@fontana I think about one. Although you would have to define “in our midst”.
-
@bkuhn Actually that “starry sky above me” was one of the vectors leading me to faith.
-
@fontana,ISTR buying a used copy of #DasKapital in high school & trying to read it;wasn't pithy like Communist Manifesto, though & I gave up
-
@fontana,IMO @rms is a much better writer than #Marx. I prefer RMS' style of treating individual issues discretely instead of unified theory
Mike Linksvayer likes this. -
@bkuhn Sorry, I have to disagree with you on that. Marx (who graduated from Bonn Uni, BTW) is a much better writer than RMS.
-
@bkuhn also @rms couches his #predictions in #fiction, while #marx claimed they were #scientific #prophecy
-
@bkuhn Different styles from different times. GUTs were popular during Marx's time. I feel like both authors fall into false binaries though

-
@fontana wow! we had such conversations in the community? Is this part of our history documented somewhere?
-
@fontana, I think there is plenty of blame to go around for how horrible that thread reads. Reading it just makes me sad about our community
-
I think @bkuhn & @fontana should start a #kickstarter campaign to collect funds to spend a year writing down !fs history. I'd pledge. ;)
-
@fontana, you'll get at least x3 what you asked for, ;) & for me, I didn't know about that chapter... you just had my pledge doubled. :-)
