@deberryandgrant In any event, you could experiment with any of a variety of !gnu/linux operating systems ... the most well known is !Ubuntu
-
@laurelrusswurm "Well known" is highly audience specific, hard w/o numbers. Amongst gen consumer pop, probably #Android currently best known
-
@quaid My suggestion made to a writer I only know in Twitterverse; just wanted her to know when Windows box dies Apple isn't the only option
-
@quaid I'd argue Android doesn't fit the gnu/linux criteria mentioned, given that few to none of the standard GNU utils are present, ..
-
@quaid .. and its libc is bionic, not glibc.
-
@laurelrusswurm Understood, thanks, I was just being a #pedant. ;-)
-
@psquid Indeed. Android is in no way a GNU/Linux, Google went out of their way to make it not be one. @laurelrusswurm @quaid
-
@clacke My mistake, I ignored @laurelrusswurm's #gnu prefix. /me ducks
-
@quaid Sorry if I came off aggressive. This seems to be a pet peeve of mine. The GNU/Linux distinction is finally relevant! :-)
-
@clacke Thanks, I'm always open to facts (I've only heard of #Androids... and in fact think androids ought to have positronic brains !Asimov
-
@laurelrusswurm Yes.
-
@clacke Is Android something to do with the GPL version schism?
-
@laurelrusswurm Not really version, more the GPL as such. Google wanted it as permissive as possible, for their own reasons.
-
@laurelrusswurm For example it allows them to make exclusive Android versions to partner manufacturers, which they just did.
-
@laurelrusswurm Not the kernel and any other copyleft parts, but the androidy parts, which are essential for phone/tablet manufacturers.
-
@clacke Okay, I thought I'd heard something about that. Thanks.
-
@laurelrusswurm I don't know personally, I've read assertions to the effect about #android & #gnu.
-
@quaid I guess it's early days yet.
